Post Cervantes, Miguel de: Novelas ejemplares (Spanish). v2 25 Sep 2009

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616) is considered one of the most important writers of Spanish literature and World literature, with a prestige comparable to Shakespeare's (and interestingly they both died on April 23th, 1616). He greatly contributed to the creation of the modern novel.

The "Novelas ejemplares" (Exemplary Novels) are a series of twelve short stories written between 1590 and 1612, and published in 1613 (between the two parts of Don Quixote). They are called "novels" by Cervantes, following the style of Italian novels of the time (more what today would be called "novella" in English).

The theme of the stories is often romantic, but sometimes a clear social satire can be detected. Most of the stories combine some "fantastical" elements (not really dragons and wizards, but some unbelievable events and coincidences) and description of the plain society of the period.

The same warning as for Don Quixote applies for non-native Spanish readers: the language and orthography is not obscure, but it's clearly outdated.

As usual, for those wanting to read this in a web browser, I include an index.zip file: just unzip this and the .epub file in the same directory, and open index.html (and modify index.css if you like).

Any kind of feedback is welcome.

EDIT (v2): What? Nobody noticed the book was not uploaded before?
