Which is the coolest-sounding word in your language?
Since you people read a lot, I'm sure you've found a lot of cool words which sound great on anyone's mouth.
What is the coolest one in your language? Personally, I just found the spanish "almojarifazgo" irresistible. Ok, it means "tariff", but it's just so abstrusely long and euphonic that it makes me squeal. |

I'm fond of Waimarama, a Maori word that means bright/shining/glimmering water. It flows off the tongue like the water it describes. I gave this name to a small stream in my books.

English...there's a popularly held, or at least widely quoted, belief that "cellar door" is the most euphonious phrase. Last edited by wayrad; 04-17-2010 at 06:34 PM. |

I've always been taken by "palindrome" - but may have been influenced by the line from Monty Python - "The palindrome of Bolton is notlob".
"Mellifluous" is also quite...well, mellifluous. |

I don't know why but I've always loved the word oak. it feels good when I say it... weird huh?
I love in German hubschrauber (almost certainly misspelled) which is helicopter. my kids and I used to go... "hub! hub! hub!" (and it's more hoob than hub!), and also regenschirm, umbrella |

Years ago a government agency did a survey of elementary children in the USA and asked them to pick out the prettiest girl's name from a list -- the overwhelming choice was "diarrhea" - and no, I'm not making this up. The list was made up of medical terms.

After giving it some thought, I have chosen the word cool. Onomatopoeia?

I've always had a fondness for "syzygy" personally (it's an astronomical term).

“Blast” because it’s just so blasted useful.
Angry: “Blast it!” Happy: “That was a blast!” Annoyed: “Get those blasted kids off my grass!” Action-packed: “We’ll have to blast them out of there!” Batman fight scene: BLAST!! |
