Calibre wont stop trying to get a list of books on GN7
So yesterday I can add books to the GN7 perfectly on both Kobo and Moon Reader Apps using Calibre.
Today, I try to do the same. Calibre recognizes the device and then tries to get a list of books on the device, except I deleted them after they assimilated on the Kobo app (the app asked me if I wanted to delete them and I did). So there shouldn't be any list of books for it to read on the device, yet it's hell-bent on trying to do so. So now I can't do anything with Calibre and my GN7 because I can't kill the job and any other jobs I tack on are waiting for the forst one to finish. I've waited for over an hour. It's ticking me off! Someone please |

Only just done this myself, and I wondered if this is the expected behaviour?
Connect Device (N7) Calibre starts a none intruptable job of scanning for books Scans the entire device for over 5min and lists many items. Over 50 entries on a device with NO books. Even when books are added, it still lists these other files, is this what you intended, or is there a way to limit the scan to a folder on the device? As it is, it's pretty much unusable for me. |

Finally, we are very close to releasing an update that supports connecting to calibre's content server, letting you download books and along with the associated calibre metadata. |

Yeah. I've done that a bunch of times, an it still hasn't worked.
@transmitthis: It's not even finding anything. I'm not getting 50 random files that aren't even e-books. I'm getting nada. Check the attachment. |

Thanks, but the token fee is too rich for me, just to wirelessly connect and transfer books, which I can do with splashtop and airdroid. It's something that's only done once a week for books, where my solution lets me transfere anything. Good luck with it though.
@Post-It - still says working... and only 5min, have you waited longer, does it hang or fail. In any case sorry your also having issues. I can only recommend you uninstall app, reboot device, then start calibre then plug in N7 with reinstalled app. just to be sure no corruption. At present it though it seems to not be very usable *(I'm using the portable version |

That means it is hanging waiting for the device to send it the list of files on the device. If you have actually rebooted the device (as opposed to just blanking its screen), then try rebooting your computer.

For me it is worth quite a bit more then the token fee they charge for the app. Update: You can choose to scan for books or not to scan for books. If you choose to scan for books it will only scan in the directories you have designated as being used for Calibre Companion to send books to. No scanning of every directory for any manuals, text files, books, pamphlets etc.. that might be on your device. This creates a much quicker connection to calibre. Good Reading! Thanks for replies, rebooted several times, managed to get the scanning down to just over 3min, stiill too long to be useful really. Glad yours works post it. (maybe it is something to do with portable version)
Thanks also DoctorOhh, still too expensive for the infrequent occasion i would fill up my device, I would be at my PC on that occasion too, so cable would be faster and better. For the other time when I wanted the odd book, as I say the free option with other apps is, well is free. and as I tried to say, It will let me transfer other media, and apps indeed anything I want to move to my device. Update - Shame that calibre dosen't implement the useful features you talk about in your update, "single folder scanning" user choice scans, etc. As I say good luck, I think it's priced too high for its usefullness, esp as you can't "try" it out, but I'm very careful with my £, I'm sure its great for others. |

I'm on a very limited income, but I still managed to donate over 20% of my income this year to good causes, and charitys Martha's meals is one I liked this year. As to whether I have donated to Calibre, thats none of your buisness and rather rude of you to try and elicite a guilty feeling if I hadn't. |

My initial thought too, but everyone has their threshold and budget. If someone says it is to expensive for them it is not my place to judge them. If they stated it as fact, then fact it is.

Thanks Doctor,
My philosophy is very much in line with Buddhism, (which I hope to practice soon) and if I do have spare money, I prefer it to go to a cause that would do the greatest good. No offence to Calibre, or indeed you App, but if it's a choice between an app I have used once in the past 4months, or giving a meal a day to a child for an entire year.... Anyway no harm no foul, I understand what Peter T meant, It's all just a matter of perspective. |

To be absolutely clear, Walt (DoctorOhhh) has no involvement or relationship with Calibre Companion except as a user. That said, we (the developers, Steven, Charles, and Annie Haley, a family affair ) very much appreciate his support and criticism and we hope that he continues to feel our efforts are worth spending time to help us improve our product.
