Horribly dark, hence totally useless.
Paper books still offer a much better contrast. Once more, what is sold as progress is a regression. |

Actually, early automobiles were called “horseless carriages” for good reason—they were based on horse-drawn carriages. Nonetheless, you raise a great point.
What is the ideal size? Certainly smaller than a newspaper, but one thing I like about the newspaper is the ability to see several of the main stories' headlines on the first page along with a paragraph or two and maybe a picture or two. This lets me quickly skim the days news and decide what I want to read first. |

Looks cool.. just one question: newspaper can be folded when carried around. Can this?

When people say they want a large flexible screen, I have to remind them how annoying it is to read large newspapers... Large flexible screen have their uses, but normal reading is not one of them.

I want a large flexible screen, like this, for my daily reading of the news paper. Not for carrying around with me at all times. I rather like sitting down each morning, with a cup of tea, some bread and the newspaper.

People want the content from newspapers but newspapers don't want to reformat their paper to fit readers. So some middle ground needs to be found.
We can certainly show a 100% size crop of the paper and then scroll around, but scrolling is BAD on e-ink and I wouldn't want to do it even on a normal display (am I waxing the screen?) I remember reading about the art of folding a large newspaper into a much smaller rectangle in a way where switching to the next window slice requires minimal unfolding and folding. An semi-intelligent next-previous system can move the view window to the next relevant section. Newspapers are formatted into narrow columns of text so this may work. I would refer a medium size screen with really high resolution so we can still see the text with the entire page on the screen and be able to do a quick scan of the subjects. And then when we click on an article, it'll show either a zoomed-in view or a reflow text view of just one article. Available e-ink displays are around 150dpi... that is such a joke compared to the 1200-2400dpi of the common laser printer. I rather have denser screens than large screens. |

Do you actually think the shape, size and (lack of) rigidity of a newspaper is comfortable for reading?

Seems very interesting, but they (probably purposely) not shown the controller.
It is only the screen you see; if they could make it dual sided epaper, they need some sort of controller with battery, and memory on the edge. One nice controller would be if the screen could roll out of a stick, that would have in itself the battery, and the controller, as well as USB ports and/or a (micro) SD card slot. |

Makes more sense for advertising panels than for newspapers. Low-quality advertising panels, anyway.
