The iOS 6 Thread
First Google Maps disappears and now Google's YouTube does a vanishing act from the upcoming iOS upgrade. Google is working on a standalone app for YouTube. Not sure if Maps will be allowed back.

A lot of pundits and bloggers are trying to play down the rift both in the Apple and Android world. Even Apple stated an issue when it dropped YouTube support. Some bring some good arguments However I think the article below is the most accurate assessment.
Is Apple's war against Google hurting iOS? On a side note Google is also planning on releasing Google Now on iOS if it has not done so already. =X= |

That's interesting. From what little I've messed with it it works better than Siri for a lot of things (at least the current version of Siri, it's supposed to be a lot better in iOS 6).

Apple's statement said that they no longer had a licence to distribute it. Perhaps this is Google's decision rather than Apple's? YouTube is a basic application that people would expect. Perhaps this is Google's attack on Apple, rather than vice-versa? |

Back when the iPhone came out, youtube didnt support html5, so an app made sense. Now Youtube gives you full html5 support, and plays natively in browsers, the app is redundant. And I doubt Apple want to re-Google their phone in these days.

It is only partially supported on the iPad3. You can use it to enter text in text fields by voice input. At least I think it is the voice recognition technology from Siri that allows this. Pretty cool, nonetheless, especially since I hate using touchscreen keyboards.

Seriously, youtube is better in a browser. Has been since html5 started being used by youtube. I really think people should give up on the conspiracy stuff. If there was one, we wouldnt be seeing *any* google apps, but google is still producing for iOS.

well, they can't deny Google the developer account without proper reason. That will be against the law or something for barring due to discrimination. Google has to break some app store policy before they have grounds to eradicate Google's developer account.
With regards to stock though, the only thing left that has Google in it is the option to use Google search. If they remove that, then all things Google will be gone from stock. |

I hope the new app comes out soon. Recently the mobile site was changed so that it plays videos in an HTML5 player rather than the native one. Making it impossible to watch them fullscreen in Safari. Also I much prefer the columned layout of the iPad app (hopefully Google's app will be similar in this regard).
