Nightshifted by Cassie Alexander is her first book, and the best new urban fantasy I've read this year.
Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel is the best new historical fiction I have read, but it is a sequel to Wolf Hall which you really need to read first. Taken by Robert Crais is the best new crime novel I have read this year. It is part of a long series, but you could read it stand-alone. Of the three, Bring Up the Bodies and Taken are very good but not the best by their authors. So if I had to pick one, it would be Nightshifted. |

I have not read that many published in 2012 - probably the best of those I have read is Taken by Robert Crais. It is the 13th in the Elvis Cole series, though. Last edited by orlok; 06-24-2012 at 10:45 AM. |

I'm currently reading R is for Rocket by Ray Bradbuy and then I've got In the Days of the Comet by H.G. Wells next on my to read list. I'd probably be even less current, but the ye's, olde's and doth's give me indigestion.

Put me down also for Wool - Omnibus Edition. I haven't read a huge number of books published this year, but this was one of them and it was fantastic.
I also really liked Ana Mardoll's Pulchritude and Simon Royle's Bangkok Burn which I believe were both published this year. |

The best book I read so far this year was a book published in October, 2011:
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. |
