HTML special characters - tip for the unwary

I am continuing a mammoth recompile and have now discovered an interesting feature in Sigil (bearing in mind I am recompiling stuff already done in Calibre).

A common abbreviation for 'et cetera' is '&c.' as well as 'etc.'

If you leave '&c.' in your source file, the parser in Sigil thinks this is the start of a Special Character (like — and so on), and promptly drops the rest of the file, since it is looking for a concluding semi-colon and a valid Special HTML Character.

Remedy: global replace of '&c.' by 'etc.' (I have just done a text where there were ten of these).

I am not raising a bug report about this, because it is easier to fix the 'feature' by getting the source clean to start with.

Doesn't it work if you replace & with & (the correct way to have an ampersand in HTML)?
