This goes in the category of "copies will never be harder to make than they are right now."

Eventually, scanning & converting pbooks to ebooks will be as simple & available as converting tapes or vinyl to mp3--not everyone will have the hardware, but everyone will know it can be done, and anyone who wants to do it, can find someone with the devices & software to make it work.

It's my experience that the bottle neck time wise is proofing and correction of the output from OCR.

The software is getting much better at giving you a good readable document even if it is not perfect yet. I think in another 10 years, there will need to be very little correcting of these type documents.
