Is your quiz finished, Paul? You mentioned "totals so far", so I thought you might be letting it run for a bit longer. If it's over, I'll come up with something for a new one.

Thanks, Paul!
There are quite a few countries named after an individual. 1 point for the name of each such country, and 1 point for the person it's named after (a gift for several; a challenge for some). Sovereign nations only. Current country names only, e.g. Rhodesia is not eligible. A title belonging to an individual is eligible. Last edited by Shayne Parkinson; 02-08-2015 at 03:03 AM. |

I suppose Pennsylvania - William Penn doesn't count on account of not being a proper country?

Correct! I'm going to be strict and ask you for his first name as well (even though I'm sure you know it). 1.5 points. Quite right. 1.5 points - the last half point if you can give his forename. |

No idea. I'll go with Muhammed; chances shouldn't be too bad. And then there's probably a ben or bin in between. |

Isn't Bolivia named after Simon Bolivar?
And I feel a bit bad about this, but strictly speaking the U.S. of America are named after Amerigo Vespucci. Of course it's the whole contintent, but it is in the country's name isn't it? |

Correct on both. The USA does count, as Amerigo's name is used in the country's name. Four more points - you're on a roll!

Georgia may be named after Saint George - unless it was some king of that name.
Ireland (Eire) is named after the Celtic goddess Eriu, but I don't know if gods and goddessses count. |
