Custom Icon Issues

For all it's worth: if you ran into this little issue where the original folder icons in the HOME folder got replaced by generic folder shortcuts:

The information is once again stored in the metadata.db, not in the .directory file corresponding to that shortcut.

So just copy the original metadata.db back from the exact same location in "Card Contents" back on your SD card: /System/Desktop/metadata.db

This is going to make creating custom icons for top-level folder shortcuts a bit of a pickle, since you'll probably need SQlite to write them after some conversion from a PNG or similar. I was thinking about creating some, ex. for my Newspapers folder, Manga folder etc...
