SONY PRS950 for Chinese - problem with book title
I bought a Sony PRS950, I would like to be able to read English and Chinese ooks. I managed to hack the PRS950 by installing the Russian boroda s/w Version 1.05f.

I can now read Chinese (ePub and PDF), but the problem is I cannot read the Chinese book titles, they all appear as 口口口口, can anyone help me??????

I knew that but a lot of similar hacks are identical across different machines of the same grouping... and I don't read Chinese so didn't know what the material on the link said... just trying to help...

This method will allow contents of ePubs to display in whatever font you desire. The system font remains western so titles and table of contents will not show if they are Chinese.

Just download the firmware from the above link.

PART1: We will update the firmware that allows ePubs to reference any fonts we choose:

1.) Plug in PRS950 & extract the download above to a folder (ie: C:\temp)
2.) Start Menu-> RUN (you shud see a new window titled "RUN")
3.) in the RUN window, type CMD
4.) a command prompt should open
5.) go to the folder you extracted to (ie: cd C:\temp)
6.) type flash_reader.bat
7.) follow the on screen instructions
8.) once complete, unplug & soft reset the PRS 950

PART 2: We install the font and tell the system about it

1.) Plug the PRS and copy the extracted fonts into the X:\epub/FONT/ (X being the READER drive)

tt0003m_.ttf (modified)
ttoo11m_.ttf (modified)
tt0419m_.ttf (undodified)

2.) Inside X:\epub, rename the existing userStyle.css to userStyle.css.BAK

3.) open the useStyle.css.BAK with a text editor (notepad) and replace it with the following:

@font-face {
font-family: -ua-default;
src:url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/tt0011m_.ttf);
}

@font-face {
font-family: "sans-serif1";
src:url(res:///Data/epub/FONT/tt0003m_.ttf);
}

h1 {
font-family: sans-serif1, sans-serif;
}

3. use save as, and save this file as userStyle.css

4. After you do all above, load a Chinese epub file to your reader and test it out.

please ask Hi-PDA to create a PRS950 firmware with chinese system font. Localization of menus aren't necessary, but at least be able to read titles and table of contents.

Chinese support for Sony PRS950
I have made a package for Sony PRS950 to support simplified Chinese in reading, directory listing, song listing, web surfing, you can download and setup in your device. In this web address you can get the file:

The method to update is same as what you have tried before:
1.) Plug in PRS950 & extract the download above to a folder (ie: C:\temp)
