Small Beer Press launch Weightless Books
And there's some good stuff there, too, including Howard Waldrop and Sean Stewart (if you're a sf/fantasy fan) and lots of other well-known genre writers: Weightless Books.

Small Beer Press are a very well-known indie publisher run by Gavin Grant and Kelly Link, herself a very highly-regarded author of short story collections.

All books are DRM free apparently. A lot of it's still just in PDF format, unfortunately, but as they say themselves it's still early days, but quite a few books are in multiple formats.

I've read stuff from there (back in my "reading on an ancient PDA days") when they had free downloads for some authors.

Shame about the price and the lack of any free samples. Or are they all famous writers I've never heard of so that people will buy them without samples?

There are some free samples available. Some writers (and a zine) I know and trust by reputation. If I like them I'll try some of the others. One of the advantages of these small niche publishers, they tend to be consistent.

Actually, if you look on the small beer website they do have some of that. They do need to connect that to the shop explicitly though.
