Reader frozen / dead / not functioning AGAIN

It's unbelievable!

Now it's the 3rd time my reader ist either frozen, dead or not functioning.

I startet the Connect software on my pc running winXP (no virtual machine).
Connected the Reader via USB.
Reader did nothing. No "usb connected" screen; nothing

(but the blue light came when I pressed the mark-button)

I closed connect - restartet it.
nothing
I deactivated the Reader drivers in Windows.
nothing
I waited
nothing
Then I used the "reset"-button on the back of the Reader and rebooted thar damn thing.
Now I'm hanging in "Starting up..." once again and nothing happens

Battery was only down to 3 (of 4) bars and in addition to that I now connected the charger.
The yellow led keeps flashing (which means that the Reader is booting).

Any idea what to do? Just try the "usual" unbricking "tricks" from the wiki?

Have you tried to reapply the firmware upgrade (which fixed your problem the first time?)

Yes.

I'm stuck with the "Update isn't complete. Try again" error.
When I try to update the FW it sais
Removing old software...
isntalling new software ...
"Update isn't complete. Try again"

I also tried installing the 1.02 (or whatever it's called) firmware.

And I tried the "change firmware number in PRSVersion.dat" -trick
Nothing helps.

My Reader works again!

It's unbelievable.

I tried to install the old firmware again. -> same error message

Then tried to install the new FW again (for the 10th time or so) -> works

But I think my Reader will never see a USB Cable again from now on.
I'll transfer all my books via Connect on a SD card.
