I recall someone on a forum like this or it could have been this forum said that sanderson was selected to complete the Wheel of Time series because of the fact that he is a great story teller. I guess that I am going to need to get a copy of some of his works and find out why he was called such a good writer. Which series in your opinion is his best, the one most likely to wow me? I will put that series on my list of books to read.

If I remember right he was also chosen to finish the Wheel of Time because when Jordan died, Sanderson wrote an article on his website about how the first book in the Wheel (and Jordan himself) was a huge inspiration to him, so Jordan's wife knew he was someone who genuinely cared about the series. Here is the article from his blog:
http://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog...bye-Mr.-Jordan As for Sanderson's books, here are my take on the ones I have read: Elantris - good, rather simplistic story Warbreaker - really liked this one, interesting world, neat magic system Mistborn trilogy - over 3 books, the word is the most developed, magic system is really interesting and its the most "epic" of his books so far that I have read. Honestly, Mistborn seems like book 1 could stand on its own and then 2 and 3 were "the sequels that were filmed back to back". I have yet to read Alloy of Law or The Way of Kings but I like Sanderson and will get to them eventually. |

The Way of Kings avoids the failings of some of his earlier work almost entirely, but if you start there you'll be left waiting for the remainder of the series. |

Oi! I liked Warbreaker. OK, it's not his greatest work, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Warbreaker has the added advantage of being available as a free download on his website. (I haven't read it, or anything else of his, yet.)

Warbreaker was fine. Not great, mind you, but it had its compelling moments, but it was clearly formulaic and not without its holes.

I have started Warbreaker twice now and have quit after the prologue. It just hasn't grabbed me. It did seem like it has an interesting magic system to it.
I really enjoyed the Mistborn books (although I haven't picked up Alloy of Law yet) and The Way of Kings (with 9 more supposedly coming for that series and with the delay due to WoT, I probably wouldn't use it as an intro to his writing though). The WoT books he has worked on have been a great addition to the WoT series, I liked them better than the last few that RJ wrote. |

I am a big fan of Sanderson's I picked up the Mistborn trilogy when I was passing through BYU Provo book store. I do agree that he does on occasion get caught up in details; however I feel that it is needed for his ultimate goal. Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, and The Way of Kings are all set in the same universe, and in each book/series there is at least one recurring character. With this in mind it is pretty safe to say the there will be a huge connection as he continues with The Way of kings. So I feel that he is better for those who really want to see the books as a world (or universe in this case) and not just the story line and characters, this is just my opinion though so I could be completely off on this point.

Who "recurs" in Elantris, as a matter of interest? I certainly didn't spot any familiar names from "Mistborn" in there.

So it comes out in this order: Elantris, Emperor's Soul (Not yet released), Mistborn Trilogy, Warbreaker, and I am unsure about AoL and TWoK in respect with each other. Last edited by Zurkei; 07-17-2012 at 03:59 PM. |
