You can have the so called "blue shale" effect on all Android tablets with some free apps. If the 8" "normal" version is priced 129, i really don't understand why they put thios "reader ediction" so expensive.
A tablet with an e-ink Carta display should be prced 249 bucks, but an Android tablet with crap components (it's worth then mine LG 8.3) and classic backlight sisplay is really overpriced.
This is not the right way for ereading (and android tablets are crap compared to Windows 8/10 tabs or iPad, than are better both working and amusement)

"Blue Shade" is their term for the popular Windows, Mac, and (jailbroken) iOS application F.lux.

It's wonderful, but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Amazon have said that it will be rolled out to other models in the Fire range with a subsequent firmware update.

That's correct. Companies are generally referred to as plural in British English, and singular in American English.

Brits, ruining the English language ever since they started speaking it.

With Blue Shade, an exclusive Fire OS “Bellini” feature that limits sleep-suppressing blue wavelength light to provide comfortable nighttime reading on a tablet before bed
When we discussed the scientific evidence regarding the wavelengths typically seen when reading a book on a tablet, multiple (not all, not me) posters were outraged. The sleep medicine research was "comically flawed" and "abysmal," reading "like a publisher financed study." Scare quotes were used around the words "studies" and "findings."

But when Amazon's gives its imprimatur to the supposed pseudo-science, not a negative word is to be heard, or read.

There's a very big difference between f.lux on iOS and similar apps on android. f.lux accesses the hardware directly and essentially recalibrates the display's color output. Other apps use some sort of software based screen overlay / filter to change colors. The result is flux has virtually zero impact on performance and (more importantly for portable device) battery life. It can do this because it's designed to work on specific hardware (and requires jailbreak).

I use cf.lumen on my android tablet and it slightly but noticeably slows down screen draws and definitely eats up more battery. If Amazon has something like this built in, maybe they can do it with direct hardware access and make it work better than third party apps can.

It's bunk (as in 'a feeding trough for farm animals and especially cattle', or 'BUNKUM, nonsense', take your pick). There's your negative word (I have others if you need them).
