Bibtex import

Hi, how about a metadata import plugin for bibtex metadata, for instance from google scholar?

Simply searching for the Title of most papers is mostly sufficient to get the complete Bibtex entry, which could be easily imported as Metadata.

Import dialog for importing ebooks

Hi!

Calibre - very great tool, but... I have for example, a folder with my downloaded ebooks, from many different sourcers.

When I want to import them all from my folder - all ebooks are transfered to my Calibre library, but in the end of this importing process, I must have a big job to rewrite columns with correct author - first name, second name, and a title, etc... because Calibre upload all by filenames that are different or another metadata I don't need.

This filenames are in many and different styles:
- first name, second name, title, [extenstion],
- second name, first name, title, [extension],
- title, second name, first name, [extension],
- title, first name, second name....
- etc...

Is here somene who can create new Calibre plugin to sort this field names in import process before or after, one by one - plugin can take a single new one file from my download folder, and ask me about all single "strings" created from whole filename - what is the first author name, second name, and title, and other field for all not classified.

It's will be great to select like in jquery "drag and drop" on correct position, or like a "poll" to select by click.

I want my ebook in my Calibre in table with field names in correct columns - titles will be in title column, author name will be in author name column - second name first, etc... Everything will be selected in importing process "done by me" if I want such option like this in my pref. area, and my file will by renamed in this process in the end as I like.

I know, that I may edit and repair all bad ebooks designation in Calibre columns one by one, but I think - in import process it's will be easiest for many different files from one folder then editing all them after import.

If you can write such plugin like this - it's will be very good tool, to eliminate an old BookSorter(v4.0) software to sort and rename all ebooks from folders.
Or, please write to me on PM, when you can find this solution in import process.

Regards

ISBN

Hello,

What the most accurate way is for me is to extract the ISBN number from the book. It is almost everytime in the document and paste it in the ID field. Is it possible to do this automaticaly somehow?

Like extract, fill in the field, find the metadata?

Yes, using the Extract ISBN plugin.

Find info on other plugins in the Index of plugins sticky post.

Red face Idea for a new plugin

I've noticed recently that there are plugins for Food Network and BBC GoodFood, I was wondering if either of those could be used to create a plugin for allrecipes.com. It would be extremely helpful to be able to import those as well.
Thanks.

Actually I originally wanted to do allrecipes.com as I personally use their website almost as much as cooks.com for which i made the original recipe reader plugin. But I found the allrecipes.com recipe pages a little messy to clean up. Right now I looked at it it again and they have a kitchen friendly view. I think I can use that to make the plugin. I will do it as soon a I have some time.

Multiple Book Covers

I did a search and could not find a request like this so please forgive me if i missed it.

I would like to be able to save and have the option to view more than one cover for each book.
Sometimes books have UK covers, US covers, Hard Back Covers and revised covers all for the same book. I would like a way to save all the different covers for the book and have the option to see just the one cover in the book details section or smaller thumbnails of a number or all of each different cover showing.
Also if only the one cover showing have the option to have it randomly pick a different cover for that book (if it has more than one cover available) ea time book is viewed.

If the book has been made into a movie i sometimes like to see both covers the one before the movie and the one re-released with a different cover because of the movie. JK Rowlings being a good example she had two different covers before the movies even were thought of one for the adults and one for the kids, then the movies came out and the movie covers were released.

EDIT: sorry another thought, When merging two or more of the same books have an option or question if you wish to add the covers of the merging books instead of discarding them.

I hope this is possible and you understand what i mean.

Thanks
Taza

Calibre only deals with one cover
There can only be one 'Cover' declared in an EPUB (guide section)

I use Sigil to add 'Alternate' covers, back covers to the book. These are just images and should never precede the declared cover (some programs interpret the first image as the cover)

Another choice is to use a image editor (ie paintshop) to stitch the images into a single 'cover' image, Which Calibre (polish,Modify Epub) can update the book with.

yes i don't wish to declare more than one cover in a format like EPUB it still uses just the primary cover or the cover you pick for the conversion to that format.

I just wish this as a plugin for calibre so i don't have to keep multiple copies of the same book just so i can view the different covers available for the book.

I have not heard of this program ill google to find out more but if this adds additional images to the book formats eg EPUBs it is not want i need.

I would love to be able to do this but i was not blessed with the creative skills to do so.

Thank you

@Taza - You probably don't need to use fancy, high cost tools like Photoshop.

There are web sites that will do simple image joins. Search for 'join pictures together" and you will find some.

I created the attachment at http://www.quickpicturetools.com/en/combine_images/ in two shakes of a lambs tail. This was the first time I used it.

Maybe there's some way you could put your multiple covers into a comments like custom column - you wouldn't be able to do much more than peruse them. I tried the following to no avail, maybe someone who knows HTML better than me (i.e. most everyone) could pick up on the idea

Code:
<img src="file:///C:/combine_images.jpg/">
Probably the best thing would be to add an Insert Image tool to the Comments editor, similar to the Insert Link tool. I think that would be something Kovid would have/want to do

add addenda

another arguably better idea than using a custom column - and it will work today - assumes you don't ordinarily have CBR comic book files - if you do then use one of the other Comic Book file types (cb7, cba, cbt, cbz)

Put the collection of covers you have for a book into rar file e.g. sunalsorises.rar, rename the file to sunalsorises.cbr

You can avoid the rename if you use WinRAR, it will allow the file extension to be overtyped when creating the file - ie you can overtype sunalsorises.rar with sunalsorises.cbr.

Add the sunalsorises.cbr file to the Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway book in your library (drag/drop into Book Details will work)

If you check Preferences->Use internal viewer for CBR you can read the book with the calibre viewer.

But you may prefer to use a dedicated CBR viewer, I have a very simple one named CBR Reader, I'm sure there will be some better ones - see attachment

Doesn't do all you want, but it does at least get all the covers for a book into to the book folder in an accessible form

You can delete sunalsorises.cbr because its in your library
