Nomination/Voting early
Because some of the nominated eBooks are available at Overdrive, I think we should have the Nomination/Voting a month early. That way when we put a hold, we can hopefully have time to actually get the winner and if we get it early and want to read it early we can.

As in Start nominations and voting for April now?
I'm in a couple of groups that do that over on GoodRead. I like the idea, but I wonder if it would play havoc on Tom's time at all. |

I doubt would play havoc. We have the nomination/vote now. Then after this one all are just one month early. Nothing different except the nom/vote one month early. So it's all done at the same time as before. except for the first one because we'll need two at one time or right after the other.

That would also give us extra time to get reading the selection.

I can see pros and cons for either way of doing it. I think it's an interesting idea to put to a vote - for 2014. We've already settled all the changes for this year.

This is something we should not vote on. It's something we should just do. It doesn't change much. The nom/vote is the same time. The read is the same time. The discussion starts the same time. The only difference is the nom/vote is a month early. That's all.

I'm in favour of early nominating and voting.

I would be happy with this.
If I've nominated/voted for something that wins, I'll definitely want to participate in the discussion and the more advance notice, the more likely I'm going to be able to juggle my reading so that I'm ready for the discussion by the allotted date. It may also help get some of those bigger books through the process. Sometimes there's a vote against books due to length (I've been guilty of this on occasion). |

I'm not sure postponing the discussion is very helpful. Even now, people can't wait, and discussion starts in the voting thread. Personally, the longer I have to wait, the less likely I am to participate in the discussion (not that I have much to offer anyway.).
I think I would rather see the discussion thread opened immediately following the voting thread. And, of course, let it go up for a vote and not take affect until next year. |

Because it is the polite thing to do. Plus, I thought that "we" all agreed that there wouldn't be anymore changes in 2013.

I've asked Tom at least twice if we could please start the discussion threads earlier and he opposes the idea. I would link or quote it for you if I could, but I'm at work and posting from my phone.
