Wood, H. Freeman: The Passenger from Scotland Yard. V1. 21 June 2012

The Passenger from Scotland Yard
by H. Freeman Wood (1888)

H. Freeman Wood was an English writer active in the later years of the nineteenth century. He specialised in mysteries that took place in France involving English characters. The Passenger From Scotland Yard, considered his best work, features Inspector George Byde. His other works include: The Englishman of the Rue Cain (1889), The Night of the 3rd Ult. (1890), Avenged on Society (1892) and The Night Mail (1894).

Synopsis:
Five men sat in a railroad compartment on the main train from London to Dover. The same five men boarded the Channel steamer and crossed to Calais, where they caught another train for Paris. By the time the train reaches Paris, we learn that one man is a detective from Scotland Yard, on the trail of stolen gems; one man is a murderer; and another, a corpse!
