Elsi ....
We have a confirmed reservation for Saturday night at the Drury Inn in The Woodlands. I got us a "handicapped" room just in case it was hard for you to get around because of your ankle. Total damage was about $100. I got us a AAA discount. I hope that's OK. |

I am able to be very flexible timewise on Sunday. If we like, we can just find some comfy chairs in the lobby and read (or use the wifi ... they have free wifi in the lobby of the hotel). So, no matter what route you are going, I can accommodate. |

I've already mentioned that those attending the Houston Meetup this week will include at least NatCh, Ralph Sir Edward and his brother, Elsi, Ricky Maveety, Amalthia, and me. (Have I forgotten someone? Everyone is welcome, so join us!) Anyway, I'm looking at the hardware we pack and I see that we will likely have this collection together on Saturday:
Sony PRS-500 Sony PRS-505 (3 including at least one with a Lightwedge cover) Amazon Kindle (2) CyBook Gen1 CyBook Gen3 Rocket Ebook Asus EEE PC Treo 680 Crackberry 8703e And if Robert Nagle from Teleread is able to make it, he'll probably be packing his Axim x50V. Very cool! Say, anybody out there have an iLiad they could bring (borrow, steal, etc.)? |

I have another suggestion for the meeting. If somebody brings a camera, and enough people are willing to have their picture taken, we could later post a contest on MR - name the participant. See if anyone can guess who is who, just based on looks....

Possible discussion items for the Houston event that will start about 48 hours from now:
1. Whose hardware is hands-down the coolest (of course, we have to talk about that). 2. What cool ways do you use your reader? 3. Who do you think will win/has won the pshwynk/Patricia election of '04? 4. The blue one next to the fish: what would its life be like if it ever left the fish? 5. Was the hoopla surrounding the Sony event of two days ago (that would be today) worth it and how do you think this will transform book reading in the future? 6. What should we do about the gibbons at marc's parties? 7. Will Amazon win the ebook reader wars or will it continue to be fragmented for years to come? 8. Are ebook formats and their limitations (PDF, epub, Mobipocket, DRM, etc.) the subject of discussion at your dinner table at home? 9. What great books did you download from MR and read during the hurricane? 10. When will our Queen Zee return from her current trip and will she be pumped up with more zaniness? Of course, that's not a meeting agenda (we don't need no steeeenking agenda). Just good people who are happy to sit and chat. |
