Can Calibre somehow set metadata or Collections to PocketBook App on Android, or only send books to the storage via MTP?

Kobo eink seems best and my aged Sony PRS-350 second best.

I'd imagined if possible at all, it would have involved reading a file from the innards of Pocketbook app install, editing it and writing it back, and hoping Pocketbook wasn't running!

So far I've escaped database corruption on current firmware on the Kobos I manage (includes, Libra, Libra2, Sage and Elipsa. Occasionally a Nia).

Yeah something like that, though in my expdrience these files are typically not eposed byt the device firmware in mtp devices for precisely this reason. USB mass torage means the entire storage is exposed, MTP allows only parts of it to be exposed.
