On a side note, there is this CenterIM that we can think about too, but the kind of app I like would be like Kindle's Media Player, running in background as I go and read books (keeping me online and beeping when a new IM is received)... @knc1: Oh man I wish we could have a multitasking OS on the Kindles... Android or K-Tizen or whatever. I don't really like the one which Kindle has now... I see that day coming. Last edited by thatworkshop; 06-02-2012 at 12:32 PM. |

From context, I think you mean how the term is being used in the human sense, about human activities. Linux is a true, multi-task, (concurrent) multi-user system. Do you have SSH access installed? If so, just keep bringing up terminals and connecting to the Kindle, see how many user sessions you can get before it runs out of memory. Ah, but that multi-tasking isn't exposed to the user in the sense of having multiple, on-screen, activites happening. |

I.E: Each symbol in the library is versioned. (The ldd command is using the current contents of ld.so.cache to resolve the locations.) So if you don't mind modifing your root file system, just add the one missing link (naturally, with a writable root file system): Code:
cd /usr/lib ln -s libdbus-1.so.3 libdbus-1.so.2 cd - If unchanged, you might have to re-generate the ld.so.cache file. |

Multi-tasking from a user point not from OS.
Oh yea did that shortly thanks knc1 and GM. This is a very poorly bundled application as now it gives another error: Spoiler:
Anyway, I gave up as it might not worth the time for now. I just wanted to have a taste of it and test it. But I seriously think Ehhh should reconsider his way of distributing stuff both in terms of source code and bundling... and saying all these obviously with full respect to your time and energy put into these. Although the kindles already contain some symlinks to other symlinks, some people have reported problems with creating a new symlink to another symlink, so you may want to link directly to the library itself instead of linking to another symlink. |

So a bit of experimenting should be expected. (As I know, you know, but for the next reader of this thread...) Obviously from the message, this current application is from a Nokia product. It needs its internal messaging system names changed to work as a lab126 product. (or maybe just register the com.nokia.* stuff with the Kindles messaging system - I can't say which would be the best way to do this). Last edited by knc1; 06-02-2012 at 01:53 PM. |

That is what I guessed you meant.
It should not be that far off in the future, let the two KT terminal projects mature a bit more. I read that JF is considering making that terminal emulator a "tabbed" multi-terminal emulator. Maybe the other one (running under X11 graphic system) will "grow tabs" someday also. Both would be a "tabbed" solution - I am guessing this will be easier than trying to get a multi-window, desktop (KindleTop) management system working. The Tizen (/Samsung) project is using Enlightenment as its multi-window manager: http://www.enlightenment.org/ I imagine, stripped down a bit, but at least it is something common. You can add e17 to your Ubuntu/Debian installation (apt-get install e17) and then when you have the greeter showing for you to login, you can select the e17 desktop. There are a number of different "greeters" but almost all of them have a "session type" selection thingy somewhere on them. Last edited by knc1; 06-02-2012 at 02:16 PM. |

My system: Linux Mint 12 (based on the Ubuntu package archives) - Plus: I already had the LXDE desktop manager installed and selected as default. Code:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install e17 Depending on which greeter your running, you will find a "session type" selection thing (often a drop down box). Select Enlightenment, then login When E17 starts up for the first time, it will give you some selection lists - If lost or intimidated - Pick English, Debian, Standard and be sure to include the "configuration" icon. Have fun. When done, log out, re-select your usual desktop manager, log back in - Now you are back to your "normal" desktop manager. All you've lost is a bit of time and a chunk of disk space. @Pelacables: It's an X11 GTK app, so, yes, that means it depends on Xorg and a WM. That means a Kindle Touch, unless you want to make a huge mess on other models (where it'd probably be easier to chroot a proper distro to achieve that).

Hi, roman220
I added dynamic libraries in the package, but it hasn't worked properly yet. I'm working on open issues. The script run.sh starts the pidgin. Last edited by Ehhh; 06-05-2012 at 08:04 AM. |

how do you use it? start is how? can you maka a WAF out of it (e.g. run the script and then let Pidgin take over)? i can't check it right now but the curiosity kills me this is why i'm asking. also... how about multi tasking. the kindle is ~multitasking enabled (only the mp3 player run in background while you read as far as i know)...
