LIQUAVISTA:The first products to use Liquavista displays will be the next generation

Liquavista’s first active-matrix technology platform, LiquavistaBright, will be ready for transfer to manufacturing partners in the Summer of 2009. It's based on LCD's, similar to PixelQi, but different technology (Electrowetting).

Liquavista’s technology enables new types of paper-like display that will provide vastly improved usability, content compatibility and cost compared with first generation electronic paper technologies.
Ok, this tells me nothing. What will be vastly improved about it? Why will it have improved usability? Or is this just marketing speak?

Yes. This is a Press Release talking about getting investor money. The main point of the article is not about the technology, but about how much money they've raised so far. That should tell you something.

I think you're looking for the technical whitepaper instead.

There you can find an explanation of this technology, and of many others:

It sounds promising. More reflective than eInk, fast enough for video and can be made in LCD fabs. I wonder if we'll actually ever see a reader using those type of displays?

I don't know if this company will make it, but its REAL nice to see alot of comapanies trying to make us better screens for our readers. E-ink hasn't changed all that much since the first device it was in.

Well i hope they make it we need all the competition we can get to reduce prices and improve quality. E-ink has been the same for a couple of years now with no news of a better screen coming from them anytime soon. I suppose a big company might want to buy someone like Liquavista to give them self's a unique selling point if they could design and manufacture there own screens.
