Forum maintenance - Reader PRS-505
Now that the 505 is out, shouldn't someone update the icons, change the description, etc?
So, does this mean the 500 is now a legacy device? |

We will think of something in this regard. Perhaps we can add one specific subsection to discuss 505-related things. Or we can introduce something like a thread prefix where a poster can specify if his post is related to the 500 or 505. The problem is that the two devices are still very much alike (especially when it comes to software handling and format capabilities), so most discussions relevant to the one device are probably also relevant to the other... moved to the feedback section |

I think the 500 & 505 should fall under the same category; they are both essentially the same device, albeit keys moved around and updated screen technology.
My 2 creds. |

One chance we need to make (and by we, I mean the forum users) is to specify the Sony Reader by the model number if what we are talking about is specifically geared towards that model and not to the other. Sony Reader is ok when talking about say books uploaded, but not if I'm saying the Sony Reader's screen is really good.

Another area where it can get confusing is the developer section. Obviously, everything that has been said and done so far only applies to the PRS-500 as the PRS-505 has not been "opened up" yet and it probably won't work the same way as the 500 anyways.
I am in particular thinking about new users who don't know anything about the PRS-500 and only recently bought the 505. |

The first change I see needing done is instead of forum topics like ...
* Reader Content * Reader Accessories * Reader Troubleshooting * Reader Developer's Corner The titles need to be made device specific... * Reader(PRS500) Content * Reader(PRS500) Accessories * Reader(PRS500) Troubleshooting * Reader(PRS500) Developer's Corner That would let people know that what we have is for what model. But, that also means then that we also need to seperate out the stuff that works for both models as opposed to just the 500 or 505. So yes, I think we also need generic forums and specific forums. |

Well and this is where it gets tricky. Content for example -- I see no need to separate here. Developer's Corner, yeah, that should be separated.
What we don't want at the end is too many sub-forums or overlapping forums. |

I do see one slight problem in the content section. libprs500 probably won't work with the prs505 as far as the USB stuff goes. But all the converters and whatnot will work fine.

Content does not need to change; both devices read the same books. Accessories does not need to change yet - not until there is an accessory that only works on one of the two devices. Possibly it will never change because this category is heavily picture oriented. People can look at the pic and figure out that it isn't for their device. Troubleshooting should change because the procedure is different between the two devices. Developer's Corner must change because the firmware is different between the two devices. |
