I just checked and the book is still free. Maybe RosettaBooks will be offering this as a teaser for a while to get people who obtain it for free to want to buy the whole set?

When I found the page yesterday, I noticed that the description did not match the title and cover of the book. After I downloaded and opened the book I found out that the title and cover are correct, it is the description that is wrong. It has somehow gotten mixed up with volume 5 or volume 6 of the set. I didn't take time to do the research to find out exactly which one. Interestingly, I could not find the final volume(s) of the RosettaBooks edition of A History of the English-Speaking Peoples for sale on Amazon. Maybe they haven't been published yet; I noticed that the edition is still fairly new.

Rosetta started promo'ng the freebie themselves, so this one wasn't a one-day promo (unlike the last several I've seen from them). It's very likely they haven't converted all the volumes in the set though (but a bit odd they didn't fix the description on their teaser).

Freebie For Those Who Like to Sew

I know that this ebook might be of limited appeal, but it has a large amount of material (265 pages) and is highly rated in Kindleland (currently 5 stars out of 5 from 4 reviews).

The Serger & Overlock Master Guide. By Clifford L. Blodget. Print List Price $11.98. Digital List Price $5.99. Kindle Price $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ter%20Guide%20

This is the most comprehensive and up to date book about sergers available covering all skill levels from basic to expert. Although advanced topics are covered the book is easy to navigate and understand. Many people find threading a serger to be difficult, so an entire chapter is dedicated to threading and basic use. The book goes on to cover advanced topics such as troubleshooting, adjustment, maintenance & repair. Covered in-depth are adjusting tension, stitches, decorative stitches, needles, feet, thread and more.

From home sergers to industrial overlock machines and coverstitch machines many of the latest machines are featured with insights on features, capabilities and best use for each model or class of machine. Buying a serger can be frustrating and time consuming because of the overwhelming number of features and types of machines that are available. The buying recommendations will help you cut through the confusion and figure out what features you really need.

Most people have a love/hate relationship with their serger. Everything is great when the machine is working good but most people hate them when frustrating problems arise. This book will empower you to eliminate the hate part of the relationship and put you in control of the machine. In depth sections on adjusting tension and troubleshooting will help you handle most problems (and know which problems not to tackle). Above all sergers are creative tools. If you know and understand the tools you can use them efficiently and effectively
.

Sergers are a bit specialized, but my wife is getting into quilting, so she would definitely be interested in any bargins or freebies in that area.

A Kindle Freebie for You Road Warriors

Hammocks and Hard Drives: The Tech Guide for Digital Nomads. By Dave Dean. Digital List Price $7.99. Kindle Price $0.00. 5 out of 5 stars from 9 reviews at this moment. http://www.amazon.com/Hammocks-Hard-...nd+hard+drives

If you travel and work online, you’re dependent on technology. Love it or hate it, it’s part of your daily life — without it, you won’t get paid — and yet it’s something that’s barely mentioned when people talk about this lifestyle.

Working from the road comes with a unique set of challenges. The systems, equipment and processes that are perfect in a traditional office environment rarely work well outside of it. Unreliable Internet and no dedicated workplace make productivity a challenge, and the need to fit everything in your luggage severely limits your equipment choices.

Security is a major problem, yet one that’s largely ignored until it’s too late. There’s a big difference between sitting in a cubicle protected by access cards and security guards, and wandering around the streets of a foreign city trying to find a cafe to work in. In the euphoria of finding a wireless network that actually functions, it’s rare to stop and think about the passwords and confidential information that you’re sending across it — and who else might be looking at them.

The risk of equipment failure is much higher on the streets of South East Asia than in an air-conditioned Manhattan office, yet there’s no tech support person backing up your data or ready to come around with a new laptop when yours breaks.

You can’t just walk around to a colleague’s desk when they’re ten thousand miles and nine time zones away. Working together with a business partner or client is much harder when you're on the road, especially if you’re trying to do everything by email.

If you’re like most digital nomads, you’re not a tech guru nor do you want to be. Instead, you’re an expert in your own field — an artist, photographer, writer, engineer or something else entirely. Every hour that’s wasted trying to fix a computer problem is an hour you’d much rather spend doing anything else. You just need things to work, using the right tools for the job and having enough knowledge to get everything done safely, securely and with a minimum of hassle. Technology is simply a means to an end.

I’ve written this book for you.

Whether you’re already a digital nomad or are planning to be, this book provides you with the straightforward, practical tech advice you need to work safely and effectively from anywhere.

I’ll give you the knowledge to choose exactly which equipment you need — and be certain about what you don't. Whether it’s a laptop, phone, hard drive or anything else, you’ll be able to focus on the features that matter on the road, and go beyond the sales people and specifications to make truly informed decisions.

I’ll help you and your data stay secure in highly-insecure environments (including some you probably haven’t thought about). You’ll have the right tools and gear to get faster, cheaper and more reliable Internet connections anywhere in the world — and will know what to do when those connections inevitably stop working.

You’ll save money on phone and data bills, and be able to collaborate effectively with others whether they’re on the other side of the table or the other side of the world. You’ll know exactly how to prevent a tech disaster from destroying your business, and which websites and apps are worth your time and money.

In short, I completely demystify the technology behind life as a digital nomad. By the end of this book, you’ll be armed with the technical knowledge, skills, equipment and tools to run your business from wherever in the world you happen to be.

Free now, another Churchill from Rosetta

A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, Vol 2: The New World by Winston Churchill Amazon US

In Volume 2 of Winston Churchill’s epic four-volume account of British history, he details the turbulent period of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries—taking us from the dramatic clashes of the powerful Tudor and Stuart families through the growth of monarchic power, the Protestant Reformation, England’s Civil War, and the discovery of the Americas.

Churchill’s prose is eminently readable—making historical characters and events come to life with compelling insight and analysis. As a pre-eminent wartime leader himself, Churchill possessed a unique understanding of the pressures of leadership—and the minds of those who were faced with the burden of shaping history.

In Volume 2 . . . .
Note: Volume 1 (http://www.amazon.com/History-Englis...+peoples+vol+1) is no longer free ($9.99). Perhaps this reveals what RosettaBooks' modus operandi will be in releasing these volumes--i.e., they will offer one for free and then they will go up to the regular price after the next one in the series is released.

The first volume is now available to borrow in the Kindle Owners Lending Library. I would expect the same will be true for vol 2 when it is no longer free. The whole set may follow this pattern.p
