Connect Store not working

Whenever I try to go to the Connect Ebook store, the little loadng icon just perpetually spins and the store never actually loads up. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Is the store just down? This is the fist time in months that I've actually wanted to buy a book there, and now I can't access it. Gah. Any tips would be very welcome. Thanks.

This happens to me quite often too. I find that it helps to have the browser open, then to access the sony connect store via the connect reader.

Still no luck. I tried rebooting, opening a browser, going to ebooks.connect.com (worked fine), and then opening the connect store. Nothing. Just little spinning arrows indicating loading.

Try closing your anti-spyware and anti-virus programs and see if that helps.

Don't forget to start 'em up again afterward!

I've had that happen to me a couple of times. Generally I just leave it alone for two or three hours, reboot, then try again and it works.

Why? I dunno.

Gah! I finally got the Connect Store to load and tried to buy William Gibson's new book. However, when trying to authorize my PC, it telling my "Network connection was lost" and fails! I can't believe what a pain it's been to buy a damned book. Connect is such a piece of shit and now because of their lame DRM scheme I'll have another weekend without anything to read ebook-wise. Guess I'll have to run by Barnes and Noble again tomorrow and perhaps put this piece of junk on ebay.

Sounds to me like an issue with you internet connection. Try shutting off everything that uses your internet bandwidth and then going to the Connect store. It does work. But if you have stuff eating your bandwidth, you could easily get timeouts. In other words, STOP DOWNLOADING PORN!

^ Dang. Porn or ebooks.... porn or ebooks.... *The tension!!!!*

Must help giffbrad, though. (To promote William Gibson, if not the Reader.)

Seriously, though, it shouldn't be that much of a pain - I'd hazard that most of us don't have the same level of problems you've encountered. That's why it sounds like something local to your machine.

Did you try altering your spyware/virus/firewall settings?

I surfed Sony's knowledge base from the reader support section. One of the errors it gave suggested if it wasn't resolvable to call, "CONNECT customer service at (866) 919-7669."

The online support is at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...00&region_id=1
But I didn't see anything there applicable to your specific error.

Hope you get it resolved!

griffbrad, did you buy your Reader just to read books from Connect? Have you heard from Fictionwise? You can buy Spook Country there as LIT and easily get rid of the DRM, so you end up with a better deal.

Do you have a firewall in software? Do you have anything with the name Norton? Do you use Peer Guradian? If you answer yes to any of these, then turn them 100% off and reboot and try again. Something is blocking you from getting there. Do you have another computer you can try? If so, load your web browser and go to http://ebooks.connect.com and see if you connect.
