Controlling left and right pages in 2-page iBooks view

I have an EPUB3 book targeting iBooks, and when viewing in two-page (landscape) mode, would like to keep one page on the left while multiple pages appears on the right. For instance, imagine a chapter about Klimt's "The Kiss". I would like to keep the picture of the painting on the left page, while the reader reads through multiple pages on the right page. Obviously, the point is to keep the image there so the user can constantly refer to it while reading without needing to scroll back to examine some feature of the painting being discussed. Any ideas as to how to go about this?

Nope. But here are a couple ideas to try instead:
- place a greatly scaled down image in close proximity to the text, so the reader can double tap to see the image full screen at full resolution. Do this as often as needed. i.e. only one instance of image is needed.
- use the linear="no" feature for selected files in the spine to provide a long scrollable "page" so the reader can quickly flip back and forth between image and text.

Hmm... Could you create an oversized @page margin and put the image there?

FL doesn't quite work for this since I do want the text to reflow.

If you know absolutly sure that the text will fit on one page, you might be able to pull it off with the page-break-before: always.
