X-ray questions
Hello, I have some questions about how the X-ray feature works on the newer Kindles. I've noticed that sometimes X-ray grabs information from Shelfari and sometimes from Wikipedia.
1. Does X-ray work with books that aren't in English? 2. Public domain books are in numerous editions, so does X-ray somehow recognize the author and title, or does each edition have to be entered into Shelfari? 3. Can you login to Shelfari with your Amazon account or do you have to create a new account? Thanks. |

AFAIK, you only get Shelfari and/or Wikipedia content, if the book is available from Amazon and has an ASIN number.

However, you can: - add an ASIN from the Kindle Store using the Java Mobi Metadata Editor (works for the iPhone Kindle app) - generate your own X-Ray data AFAIK, you don't need to have a Shelfari account to get X-Ray data. |

I understand that you don't need to have a Shelfari account to get X-Ray information, but I have a number of books that I bought from Amazon that have ASIN numbers yet don't seem to have X-Ray data.

All Amazon books have an ASIN number - it's simply Amazon's catalogue number for the book. A book will only have X-Ray data if the author or publisher has specifically created such data for it - it's not there automatically.

I have personal controls on which blocks use of a web page. Would this be blocking X-Ray? |

To the best of my recollection X-Ray is a KTouch only feature at this point.

I did some browsing on the Shelfari site and it seems as if the information is linked to the individual edition and not the work in question. This is unfortunate and to me needlessly duplicative. I have some compilations of public domain works that I had hoped would have X-ray data. I think I would have to log into Shelfari and copy and paste information in order to have something X-ray could use. All I wanted to do was read.
