How to Authorize PRS-505?
I just received my new PRS-505. I've installed the software, registered the product at the Sony WEB site, and successfully established communications between my computer and the eReader. However, when I try to authorize the eReader by connecting with the Sony store, the Library software cannot connect with the Sony site. It just tries to connect and then times out. I have the latest software. Is it possible that Sony has updated the WEB site and thereby broken the eReader Library linking process?

It is not supposed to go down until midnight Eastern. So... it should be up. Can you connect with the PC software and log in? Can you browse the bookstore? If so, it must be up and running. If you can't do those things I have seen a few reports from people that have this problem and Sony hasn't been able to help them. But, when they installed an ran Fiddler2 everything worked.
As you sure the software isn't blocked by a firewall? BOb |

I can browse the book store from my computer using Firefox, but I don't have an account yet, and I don't see any way to create one except via the Library software, which will not connect to the site. Am I missing something?

Well, installing Fiddler2 allowed the eReader Library to find the Sony site. After filling out the registration screen and hitting "Create Account", the spinning arrows just spin forever; nothing happens after that. If I quit the Library and run it again, trying to simply log in, the arrows also spin forever. This process seems thoroughly broken.

I tried to post a dump, but it didn't work. I do know that as long as Fiddler2 is running, the Library remains connected to the Sony site with te arrows spinning, but as soon as I terminate Fiddler2, the Library loses connection to the Sony site.

I contacted Sony by phone, and they said that "they are having major difficulties with the WEB site at the moment, but that the new site would be going live later today and it would fix everything". I guess we'll see.

I was able to authorize, I think. However, I haven't been able to log in. When I enter my password and hit the enter button, I get the circling arrows. Perhaps I'm authorized, perhaps not. As I said somewhere, the Sony telephone customer assistance agent said that he couldn't help me this morning, but that te new WEB site would fix everything. So far, it hasn't fixed anything.

I wonder what effect it would have if you run up Internet Explorer, then did Tools/Internet Options/General/"Delete Temporary Files" before re-trying...

You can check the "about" page on the Reader (from the "Settings" menu) to see if it thinks it's authorized. Look underneath the "Device" line and you should see something like "Authorized for the eBook Store."
