Can I shutdown the Built-in light?

The built-in light was on even though I use the setting to "0"

You could install this script. It can be configured to turn off the light at power-on if the light is below a certain level.

On the Paperwhite 2, check that the FL variable is set to "/sys/class/backlight/max77696-bl/brightness" in the scripts.

You can also use CoolReader. There is an built-in option to switch on/of frontlight, reachable via configurable tap touch zone.

Yes, this is an old thread, but it was a top result for GoogleFor. So for posterity, on my PaperWhite2 (PW2):
* echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/imx-i2c.0/i2c-0/0-003c/max77696-bl.0/backlight/max77696-bl/brightness
