Damit endet nicht nur ein Zeitabschnitt (MP war der erste große eBook-Shop weltweit, lange, lange bevor es ePub gab), sondern es setzt nach Microsofts LIT ein weiteres Zeichen für alle, die sich nun fragen, was sie mit ihren DRM-verhunzten Dateien in Zukunft anfangen sollen.

Im übrigen werde ich alt. Mobipocket war immer noch so eine nette Brücke in die Vergangenheit und Glanzzeit der PDA. Eine ausgestorbene Spezies. (Für die Nachgeborenen: PDA, das waren so elektronische Notizbücher ohne Mobilfunk/WLAN/Internet/Cloud-Anbindung. Doch, das gabs wirklich. Sogar Apple hat das mal versucht damit, so vor ungefähr 1000 Jahren .)

Na wenn ich das richtig verstehe, Januar 2012. Wie sonst soll man "remove your existing eBooks" interpretieren? OB-X-Thread: Entstauben. Definitiv entstauben. Und immer eine halbwegs aktuelle Version von Calibre bereithalten für's Format-Shifting. :-|

Ich habe bisher nur eine handvoll verstaubter e-Books gekauft (überwiegend LIT), und ausnahmslos jedes davon wurde nach dem herunterladen gründlich entstaubt. Und das werde ich auch in Zukunft so beibehalten: Wenn ich ein E-Book kaufe, hat das entweder staubfrei zu sein oder aber es muss gut und zuverlässig funktionierende Entstaubungswerkzeuge geben, die auch sofort nach dem Kauf angewendet werden. Mir kommt kein Staub ins Bücherregal...

Meine Interpretation: man nimmt erst einmal als Verlag keine weiteren Titel an. Über die Auswirkungen auf den sog. Leser/End-user ist da nichts gesagt.

Vielleicht tauchen die Titel ja im Kindle-Shop auf - warten wir es ab.

Nun ja, es geht primär um die alten DRM-Mobipockettextlizenzen aus dem Shop von mobipocket.com. Im Grunde ist es ein Wunder, dass Mobipocket als Name und Shop überhaupt so lange überlebt hat.

Die Formatstruktur und Grundlage hat Amazon nach dem Kauf des französischen Unternehmens in 2005 (so lange ist das schon her!) ja für alles was mit dem Kindle zusammenhängt übernommen und fleißig daran herum gebastelt.

Und nun wird offenbar mit dem neuen Kindle 8 Format der nächste Schritt weg von der alten Mobipocketgrundlage übernommen, wie kbaerwald schon richtig sagt.

So gesehen ist das schon ein deutlich sichtbarer äußerer Schritt weg von den Wurzeln. Und schon das Schließen des Shops wäre mE. wirklich das Ende einer Ära.

Dieser Dinosaurier hier bekommt bestimmt auch bald mal seinen Kometen ab wenn er nicht irgendwie vorher "wiedergeboren" wird.

Wird der Leser denn bei der Übertragung seiner alten Bücher in das neue Format unterstützt?
Ist eine Übertragung auf ein Nachfolgelesegeraet noch nach dem Januar 2012 noch möglich?
Ich habe gestern bekanntlich eine Ankündigung von Libri erhalten, dass ich meine Mobipocket-Dateien sichern soll, weil man das Format ab Heiligabend einstellt und auch die bisherigen Dateien zu späteren Zeitpunkt entfernt.

Ich hatte eine ähnliche Nachricht erhalten und Libri gefragt, wie es denn weitergeht, wenn ich danach meinen PC wechsele bzw. mein Lesegerät erneuern muss (was ja die Erneuerung der ID erforderlich macht).

Die Antwort steht noch aus.

Irgendwie muss da doch mal endlich der Verbraucherschutz eingeschaltet werden!
Ich zahle ja schliesslich Gema und sonstige Gebühren, d.h. alle geschützten Werke müssen vom Anbieter bis zum Wegfall des letzten Nutzers weiter angeboten werden, d.h. DRM muss für mindestens 100 Jahre angeboten werden. Ein Insolvenz-Schutz für die Nutzer muss auch her, ähnlich bei den Banken...

Wenn das käme wären vielleicht endlich Schluss mit diesem DRM-Kram...

Vielleicht klagt ja auch mal einer, dass ein Anbieter alles umformatieren muss hehehe...

Sorry, der Ärger musste einfach mal raus.

Achso...und warum da schon wieder ein eigener Weg gegangen wird statt auf epub zu wechseln will mir auch nicht in den Kopf :-(
