You must be new to the e-reader scene (I saw you other post ). Sure, if you are after a Tablet PC, the 8" Asus Tablet isn't for you.
But for people who are looking for something other than e-Ink screens for reading and note taking, this isn't too bad. And the price is pretty good.

Well, there you have it. I knew Apple was good for something .
Just kidding of course, I'd buy an iPad in a flash (no pun intended) if I didn't have to trade my soul for it.

I'm definitely excited for this upcoming deluge of tablets over the next year or two!

Nice that there's one or two mentioned with 12" screens--just wish they'd get more to a paper sized ratio than 16x9.

Hey, at least they are getting closer, maybe you will only need to wait to gen 2 rather than gen 3 products with a bit of luck.

Who cares if some don't turn up as expected, the main thing is getting more choice in the shops since there are plenty of people that like the form factor, but have no desire to accept the compromises forced on them by the ipad even if others are perfectly happy with that device.

Even the relatively simple shift to 16:10 would improve things quite a lot and would also be a nicer option on netbooks too.

Exactly, the more options out there the better.

Will give people more choice, and the more stuff they try the more stuff companies will learn either works or doesn't so by the 2nd and 3rd gen of tablets we have a slew of great options to choose from so everyone can find what they want.

Yep, it doesn't take much of a shift.

I'd really like to see someone take something like this digital notepad in the link below and turn it into a full on multimedia tablet!

I bitch because I almost like it. It comes a step closer to the ideal functionality but takes a few steps back, which is annoying: if it was paper-size, or it had color, it would be a killer. Right now it feels like an also-been rather than a killer app. Bear in mind this is a product that's probably a year from market, but is showing no significant innovation.

One thing it might be is an Irex killer, it's half the price of the DR800 and does much of the same things.

EDIT: After reading up on reflective LCDs I think these LCDs just look really bad (like, goddamn terrible) on video in demos due to the harsh specular lighting and low ambient causing the reflectivity to wreak havoc with the display. In actual use they must be better since people are so happy with them.

The best thing about such a device and even to the eeepads that they announced is that at least asus aren't taking things easy, they are looking for ways to stand out from the crowd rather than simply chucking out a 10-11" atom-based tablet and a 9-10" android tablet which seems to be the default approach of most of these companies so far.
