Baum, L. Frank: American Fairy Tales. 03 Jan 2008

While known for his Wizard of Oz series of books, Baum also wrote a number of Fairy Tale books. He visioned himself on a par with Lang the Brothers Grimm and set out to create an American type of story. He sought to remove the violence and romance from the stories. While interesting and well told, I feel that these stories lack the punch and dynamic elements that I have enjoyed.

Baun was an early leader it seems for the "politically correct" fairy tales. (About a hundred years too early.)

This group includes the following:
  • The Box Of Robbers
  • The Glass Dog
  • The Queen Of Quok
  • The Girl Who Owned A Bear
  • The Enchanted Types
  • The Laughing Hippopotamus
  • The Magic Bon Bons
  • The Capture Of Father Time
  • The Wonderful Pump
  • The Dummy That Lived
  • The King Of The Polar Bears
  • The Mandarin And The Butterfly
