And we've been invaded by those green-headed biting flies. I zapped four of them in the gazebo a couple of hours ago. My wife's allergic to just about every biting and stinging insect.

Hit -- or got hit by -- a couple of real cloudbursts while I was driving on the New York Thruway, today. Rain came down in buckets -- traffic slowed to about 40 mph -- with rapid-fire lightning (the kind with multiple cloud to ground strikes that all follow the same path), and lots of hail (starting out as BB sized and going up to pea sized as the storm went on). The NY Thruway has some "issues" -- water pooled in the left lanes resulting in some accidents and lane closures. Coming back there was a lo-ooo-ong back-up due to a hillside collapse across all northbound lanes -- right by a "Watch for falling rocks" sign.

After all that, it still never actually got any cooler.

We just experienced this too, after a few days of very cool weather with rain on and off. Humidity is not something to which I am accustomed, although I experienced it during vacations in the South USA. I stated out in a sweater and light jacket, with an umbrella, in the AM and then suddenly, in early afternoon, the clouds blew away and the sun came out in full force. Yuck. Sticky, hard to breathe, and my garden went from happy dancing stalks and leaves to looking like wilted umbrellas. Our predicted weather is suppose to be hot and getting hotter by the day (over 100F and about 106+F on Sunday).

Hot, hot hot. I thank whatever powers that be for our Trane.

The wife and grandson have gone off for a while, and the rest of us just got out of the pool for the first time this year. Norton had a blast. Crystal never got any further than the slide. At the moment we're under a thunderstorm watch. We knew that before going in but we wanted to go in anyway. Well, I knew it; I'm not sure how much attention Norton and Crystal pay to the weather. Usually they just watch the news and don't bother with the forecast. Being house dogs, I guess they figure that rain or shine, they won't be going to work in the morning.

Well the storms have passed and for some odd reason the power just decided to go out in the neighborhood. It's only been out a few minutes, but I'm already. missing the AC. It's no fun living at the end of a swamp when the AC goes out.

Thanks for the heads-up. Pooh, as I haven't checked the weather report today.

Our power stayed off for an hour and a half last night but it's back now. The computers took the surprise well, but the washing machine went crazy and just sat there blinking at us in stunned silence. It refused to respond to the "off" button when held for the mandatory three seconds and even unplugging it for several minutes didn't knock any sense into it. As a last resort I held the "off" button for a couple of minutes and it finally gave in and reset.

Well ... record rainfall ... followed by more rain ... roads are flooding out, cars floating, etc.

I had an interesting commute to work this morning - standing water all the way punctuated by idiots who think it's fun to drive as fast as you can and generate waves of water onto oncoming cars ...
