My Readings : A new interface for Calibre on tablets and smartphones

Hello,
I open this thread to present you a Web interface for Calibre.

This one works on the same principle as COPS:
Have a Calibre bookcase on a Web server (as a NAS) and be able to consult it since a web application without Calibre server.

This interface is to be considered as a complement to COPS: My Readings requires devices a little bit powerful as an iPad but allows, in return, a more optimized browsing.

A pesentation and the instructions for the installation are here:
http://sbdomo.esy.es/my-readings-presentation/

The page is in French but My Readings can be multilanguages (at the moment, in French and in English).

A demo: http://sbdomo.esy.es/MyReadings/skin/ipad.html

Hello,
There is a new version of My Readings.

News:
- An on-line reader for epub and cbz books,
- Possibility of using Calibre libraries out of your web directory,
- Addition of a page of administration to configure My Readings and do compatibility test (admin.php page).

The article explaining the installation of My Readings was updated to explain how to use admin.php (in French).

I have just installed Myreading on Synology 411j (thank you google translate)... What a great contribution! It looks awesome on ipad! Much better than cops, and online reader included! Maybe it´s time to move my comics from Comicrack to Calibre... Congratulations.

Only one comment: can you add more ways of searching? By author, letter by letter A-B-C-D.... etc. I have many books and it´s getting a little messy.

Sorry, more ways of searching are already included! I didn´t noticed.

One question: How can I activate the woody theme? If I click on Ipad wood icon ("Tools" tab) synology nas cant resolve the path.

Hello,
Thank you for your encouragements and for the translation in Spanish.

For the url of "wood" theme, if for example the url by default is http://myip/MyReadings/, then, the url would be http://myip/MyReadings/?platform=wood. At my home, the url creates by the "Tools" tab works. What url this tab gives you?

and now try
http://cajon.dscloud.me/cops/libros/?platform=wood doesn´t work.

Maybe something wrong on synology webserver?

Hello Lynxai,
In general the web server is configured to open index.php or index.html by default.
For exemple, with the url http://cajon.dscloud.me/cops/libros/,
it's http://cajon.dscloud.me/cops/libros/index.html which is open.

It seems that your NAS doesn't do that. In that case, the good url is:
http://cajon.dscloud.me/cops/libros/...?platform=wood

Hi,

I also own a synology NAS DS411j and I use COPS with my kobo touch.
I heard about MyReadings and I wondered if it would work on a DS 411J. So now I am happy to see that someone else was able to install it. It s really coool.
I would like to install it for use with my tablet (asus transformer TF101).
I would be really happy to exchange about comicrack to calibre transition.
How to handle the files ?

Lynxai : I would be happy to exchange with you to know how you use your equipment to handle your files (comics, books, etc...)

Thanks guys !

Thanks for this

Hi Hugo,

I´m myself in the middle of transition between comicrack and calibre (MyReadings made me change my opinion about what software to use). I think we can help each other.

I´ve installed comicvine calibre plugin but I have a few problems: the comicvine plugin doesn´t find metadata if I´m searching more than 1 comic in a row, I have to go one by one and, to make things worse, almost always it needs the "comicvine id". In this sense, Comicrack works much better.
Calibre has some advantages too: I have pending to review the CBC calibre format http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/conv...ok-collections. Looks interesting.
Other solution is a software conversion from Comicrack .xml to Calibre .opf, I tried to change the extension but didn´t works . Anyone knows a valid way to do it?

To orden my comic library with Comicrack is easier, but Comicrack in no way provides a server integration with nas. Calibre, MyReadings and my nas DS411j does, it´s a perfect combination. I want to keep my comics in DS411j with metadata and I want to read it from my ipad without connect any cable, is it so difficult?

Let me know your opinions, it seems we are in the same situation (and sorry for my english).

Myreadings issues on install...

Hi,

I've tried yesterday evening to install MyReadings on my NAS.
most of it went well but I have an error :
You have a open_basedir restriction. If you can't access to your library, try to add your library path in open_basedir.

I don't understand because I have also installed COPS and it works fine.

Maybe a user issue ?

Using Calibre to hande comics, mangas...

Hi Lynxai,

I see we face the same challenge !
But you are ahead of me on one thing : Comicrack !

Unfortunately, it only exists on Windows and I own a Mac.

OK first let me describe my configuration :
laptop Mac Book Pro
I handle my Calibre library of ebooks on it.

the database and the files are stored on the NAS (/volume1/calibre/)

NAS DS 411j
the NAS handles all the files that I want to share to the devices for the family and friends.
It runs COPS.
It (tries since yesterday) runs MyReadings

tablet Android Asus TF 101
I read my comics on it using perfectviewer, the files are on a public folder shared with SMB.

ereader kobo touch
I read my ebooks on it. I use COPS to download them locally.

I want to use Calibre to handle graphic objects (comics, mangas, "bandes dessinees" as we say in French) but there are some limitations I have already identified.

Some files I have are only folders. I need to zip them to have them accepted on Calibre.
There is no way to add metadata to the file itself. (ZIP, CBZ, CBR)...
When I import, Calibre tries his best but most of the time I get name of the book and name of the author inversed...

A long way to go to get to an easy comics world ?

You need to add your library path in webserver options, just go to Control Panel - Web Services - PHP Settings to set your path ":/volume1/calibre" (MyReadings install folder).

I own a MacPro, I have a separated partition with Windows 8 for Comicrack and other things.

About your configuration, you should use MyReadings and DS411j on your Asus 101, in that way you won´t need to download any files!

Manga usually comes like images inside a folder, a really pain. You´re right, the first step is zip them (use CBZ, not CBR, CBR don´t save the metadata inside the file).
Try to install Comicvine plugin in Calibre and read about CBC format.

Together gonna get this!

I had already this path in webserver options.
It works for COPS.

I am thinking about a user issue.
The COPS directory under web/ is cops/ with user admin

For MyReadings, I have used root.

May I need to have "admin" user ?

Any idea ?
