CSS and firmware V1.4?

i still haven't gotten around to upgrading to the new firmware, in great part because of formatting tweaks I *know* I can make with the old firmware. So my question is, how are css files processed by the version 1.4 firmware?

I kind of assume that the font-size is now being ignored/overwritten, based on the "fix" to the font-rescaling issues, but has anyone tested this? Line height is the other setting I use all of the time, to remove/minimize the space between lines - I know requests for this in the next revision, but at least pre 1.4 you can I have it set to something like 85-90% of the font-size, and am quite happy.

It sounds like justification and probably other similar settings are still processed, (based on comments in other threads), but I'd be love to hear about other tags that are or aren't being ignored!

I haven't seen anything odd happening along those lines since I upgraded. Everything works as expected.

oh, I wasn't thinking so much in terms of "odd" things happening, more like how much ability will I have to tweak the formatting

Right now, I'm set the font-size at about 80-90% of what "smallest" is, and line-height about 90% of the font size - so I get something like the attached:

Okies, here's a sample e-pub that I've formatted (available via the Baen Free Library) by David Weber, along with a screenshot of how the first page of Chapter 1 looks...

As far as the spacing, you can use the "line-height" tag with calibre to set it - so I might do a base-font-size of 13, and a line-height equal to 11. The problem I saw with doing it this way is a calibre seems to apply line-height specified this way universally - so around the chapter headings, etc, it decreases the line height as well. Instead, I've specified the line-height in html.css, which calibre uses for default values, under the defaults for the paragraph tag. Definitely helps

I think the "smallest" font size is 15pt, but that is the only one I've ever figured out - I've found that setting the line-height at 85-90% of the font size works really well for me, but you can test and see what you think.

Yeah, so I ended up setting the line height in: Calibre2/resources/templates/html.css
so I have:

p, dl, multicol {
display: block;
margin: 1em 0;
line-height: 0.92em;
}

and then call calibre with just the font-size of 13 - which results in a font-size of 1.0833em, and a ratio of about 85% line height to font-size.

But it sounds like you can still override the font size, you aren't stuck with what the kobo display thing provides?

thanks for your help!
