where did I indicate it was? But I agree the proof is in the real world use.

Then again where has anyone who has been near one of the panels said something bad about the PixelQi panels? Could be an NDA of course, but at the same time we have heard of a couple brands going with them so far...at least I think there was more than one...I honestly don't remember after all the news the past couple days...

I am one to feel something as trivial as a screen will work as promised or it will not, especially as we have already all watched around 30 mins of video, thanks to Charbax, of them under live working conditions...so it's not as if I am pulling the suggestion out of thin air here...yet you are right, only time will tell. I just offered something not thought of by any of us yet.

Are the PixelQi screens actually in commercial production yet? I was under the impression that they were currently only available as prototypes.

Sounds interesting but it is touch screen... I wonder if the screen quality will suffer.

All the photos they provides are fake/photoshoped photos. Look at the "Skiff" logo on the back it is a photoshoped logo (the background of the logo is not the same shade of gray than the back od the device) And even the displays are fake...

I can't think that LG could be do better in a few month than people who work on flexible display in about 2 years. The readius, for example, is not on the market because the display even if it's flexible is really fragile and become faulty quickly...

And a resistive touch that is flexible? How such a stupid idea... (and to allow standard stylus and finger, there is only one solution, resistive touchscreen)

Why do you think LG has only been working on this a few months?
They have been working on the flexible foil tech for years. Its already being tested with OLED displays as well. Hearst, LG etal started working on this device like 2 years ago when they started FirstPaper.

Readius is not on the market for one reason only- they're financial backing disappeared in a ponzi scheme. Because of this they couldn't secure enough money for production and ended in bankruptcy. Wistron bought them from bankruptcy. The good thing is that the folks at PolymerVision kept working on their tech and device right through all the turmoil, the result of that is a newer, better device which will launch later this year.

you will have to let me know why resistive touch is not a good idea as it relates to the flexible displays used in Skiff or the Que.

OLED display have nearly nothing to do with Eink panel. And if the POlymerVision is near bankrupt, this is because they got a lot of problem with their flexible screen technology, or the readius will be out long time before.

Do you know how work resistive touchscreen? there are two layer with something like a fluid between them and when you press on it, the two layer become more or less in contact, and that's how the "touch" come. If you fold a touchscreen, you will make some part of the two layers in contact, creating falses touchs

Im not saying OLED has anything to do with E-ink panels . I'm saying the Flexible Foil tech by LG used in this Skiff has been in development for years and they started on this device more than a year ago. So your statement about LG being better in just a couple months is inaccurate. They have been at it for more than a few months.

Of course I understand resistive. But the Skiff and the Que are not flexible to be folded they are flexible to be more durable than using glass substrates, so bending the resistive layer is not an issue.

Readius isn't a resistive Touch screen. The Financial scandal and bankruptcy interrupted the launch schedule. They had all the suppliers ready to go but then their money evaporated. Wistron has bought them out of Bankruptcy and they are tooling up for the production of the newest version of the device.

How can you say that they work on this device for more than a year? And LG had the Eink licence for not a complete year now, so I can't know how they do to work on this for more than a year...

Yep and LG is in almost no way comparable to Polymer Vision in capabilities and resources. I never quite figured out the Readius fanboyism that crops up from time to time...it looked like a reasonably dumb idea when it was first proposed, and still looks like a reasonably dumb idea.

As for touch screens, I'm not going to whine about them in devices that aren't on the market yet. I don't mind people whining about them in existing devices like the Sony Reader...but projecting failure for devices that aren't available yet is not extremely wise.

because of articles like this one from may of 2007 about LG's first color display using this tech

http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeCon...&languageSec=E

which even mentions their first large black and white version was produced the year before in 2006

and Skiff started as FirstPaper which was formed in March or April of 2008 and LG was brought in right at the beginning precisely for this flexible foil tech for large format devices

You don't see how great it would be to have a large display (5 or 6 inch diagonal or even bigger) that simply rolls up into its device and fits in your pocket as easily as a mobile phone?

No, I'm afraid I don't. Like tourist maps that pull out of gift pens...I see it as kind of stupid. It's not the idea of portability that bugs me...it's the execution and design that together make it a pretty dumb product. But hey, it's got its fans, so I won't gripe much about it, I just won't buy it. It's just a bit absurd to compare a company like Polymer Vision with a company like LG and claiming that LG can't do something that Polymer Vision didn't succeed at completely (for various reasons).

I never say that LG can't do something that Polymer Vision didn't do. I just say that LG didn't have a lot of time to work on this since they didn't get an Eink licence for a long time now (only a few months), PolymerVision have it for nearly two years now. And since the first Eink panel provider is PVI, and now Eink/PVI are the same company, I doubt that PVI will allow LG to do whatever they want with Eink film like suchs panel that PVI want to do since the beginning and where unable to do it.
