Calibre not opening

Since yesterday I have been struggling with Calibre. When I click on the icon it comes up with the little rotating circle, which stops but nothing happens. I have tried various ways of accessing Calibre, including going to my library and trying to open the books using Calibre. I have been patient, and left it a while, but still nothing. There are no error messages, just what looks like an attempt to open the programme, which peters out unfulfilled. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. And re-downloaded.
I am running Windows 8 and have had no problems with Calibre up till now - it was fine the last time I used it, which would be a couple of weeks ago. Any ideas? I have looked at previous posters, and searched for the Windows Font folder Lan Driver, as a similar querant found that was his issue - I don't even have that.
Help!

Update: Thank for the reply - I had already done that, and nothing I tried made a difference - then this morning, having changed nothing further, Calibre is suddenly opening, and opening fast! Bizarre, after a few days of sitting there unmoving, but I am very happy to have it back! Thanks again.
