Post Blackcode Java?

To provide support for devanagari languages I was looking at the java program that runs on Kindle and found that Amazon uses very old version of Java "Blackdown Java". Any idea why amazon might have decided to go with Blackdown java? I am writing java code for past 10 years and have had never heard of it till date.

After digging on net found its some port of sun java specification for linux platform. later on sun, ibm started to provide the support to linux platform and blackdown was shutdown.

The obfuscated code is complex, but not that hard to understand.
