Calibre creates duplicate folders

I was just given a folder with a zillion books in it, each in it's own folder. I want to import these books into Calibre, but I don't want to create duplicate folders - that is, I have a folder labeled "autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini" but if I import the contents of that folder into Calibre, I'll have a second folder with the same title. Is there any way to avoid this duplication?

I did read the stickys, but didn't understand it quite - I wound up putting the files on a memory stick, and adding them from that; that way I didn't have duplicate folders on my computer.

Hard drives are less than 4 cents per GIGABYTE. So 10 GB of files costs 40 cents.

File storage space is no big deal.
