IDPF to host Digital Book 2007 event on May 9th

If you happen to be in the New York City neighborhood on May 9th, you can catch the Digital Book 2007 conference at the McGraw-Hill Auditorium. Hosted by the International Digital Publishing Forum, it will give you an opportunity to learn more about "the latest reading devices and software, digital textbooks and curricula, publisher's digital repositories, and web book and library search."

Price for registration is $179 (or $89, if you are an IDPF member).

I'll be very interested to find out what's being discussed. It'd be great if they included standardization, although the tantalizing agenda item "Panel: Digital Production Update: How IDPF and XML Standards permit “One File Format” Workflows for Reflowable Digital Publications" sounds promising. Anyone planning on going?

Mobile Read should have a presence there. It is a great place to find allies.

Mobile Read has more clout than it believes it has. Yes it would be preaching to our own, but getting known elsewhere than the blogosphere is important.

An other idea.
I would see a direct action such as a Mailing, email and paper, to all authors and publishers across the world, that would extoll the ebook. It would be done in a voice of our own, promoting us as a market study field or maybe a communication hub for anyone curious or interested in the media.

I would rather see something more positive, such as this, than a direct action such as the one proposed elsewhere in JK's immediate surroundings.

@MD Could you go as a representative of the authors you've mentionned in the other thread?

Personally I would love to be there, but it's literally out of reach for me (unless someone buys me an overseas ticket).
