Calibre question
After getting a book with 'get books' how do I download it if there is nothing in the download column? Trying to become proficient at this ebook stuff. LOVE my new NOOK with GlowLight.

You may want to look in the Calibre forum. And post the question there if you can't find the answer.

Calibre questions belong in the "Calibre" forum. The clue's in the forum name. I'm moving this thread there.

I think you should see "Get Books" as a search and comparison tool.
It helps you to search for a book in many different online shops, at the same time. You can then compare the price and see if the book has some type of DRM. But to actually buy and download the book I think you have to go to one of the stores, and download it from there. Just double click the book you want to buy in the "Get Books" window, and you will be taken to that store. Then you may have to register there and so on, just as any online purchase. Some books are free, and you may double click them and can then download them. Perhaps Calibre sometimes can figure out how to download for you, from a specific site, and then the meny option to Download will be active. But I have never seen that yet... |

If you actually want Dickens' books, rather than simply using it for demonstration purposes, I'd recommend downloading them here at MR. You'll find them to be somewhat better versions that those you'll find elsewhere.

Yes, I have downloaded some classics from here, and am very impressed by them.
But Calibre don't allow direct download from MobileRead. A pity, since there is a rather strong connection between MobileRead and Calibre. Calibre should perhaps give an option, on new install, to fetch a wide sample of books from MobileRead? Just click a button for the format you would like... Perfect metadata. Nice covers. It would be fun to follow the work with "The MobileRead Good Book Pack for New Calibre Users". Last edited by Adoby; 09-05-2012 at 06:09 AM. |

You are mistaken. Using Get books, when you find the book you want you can simply double click on the book, then scroll to the end of the 1st post and click the attachment link and your book will be added directly to your library.
To do this you need to ensure the Open in external browser is unchecked. I also found that sometimes I needed to restart calibre for it to show me the correct info about the book. But you can easily go down a list of mysteries and add book after book then restart calibre and you will see that they are all there. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 09-05-2012 at 06:29 AM. |

Yes, you are quite right. It is possible to open a web page window inside Calibre, and then download from there.
By "direct download" I meant by using right click and downloading from the search window. That seems to work fine for Manybooks, but not for MobileRead. |
