A review of wacom enabled writing implements

Is there anyway for Entourage to put up a list of compatible wacom enabled pens for the EE and PE. This would looking around for one much easier than hunting and coming back to the forum about each one.

If there is anyone who is a guru in this area and would like to give some comprehensive classification and review of different pens, I would also be very interested.

Quite some time ago we did review various pens that do and do not work here: http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...-with-the-eDGe.

As a rule, if the pen says "Wacom pen-enabled", it works. If it's a Wacom pen but doesn't specifically say "pen-enabled" it probably won't work (the Intuos and Bamboo pens, for example). Lastly, pens for tablet PCs will usually work unless the screen uses n-trig's system (a capacitive touch screen with a pen mode, such as on the Dell Lattitude XT and HP Slate).

Generally, if it says "Penabled" on it, it works. (Note the Intuos/Grapphire/Bamboo graphics tablet pens are not the Penabled kind.)

This was discussed extensively in this thread about Alternate Wacom Penabled pens.

(And I see Boris beat me to the post by two stinkin minutes while I was writing mine.)

ahh, I see;

Thanks everyone; I guess buying a wacom pen is a bit less of a mine-field than I thought.

For what it's worth-- I bought a Motion L-series pen (as recommended in a thread in this forum). It works very well- with a normal grip which makes it convenient when you take copious notes or make a lot of annotations.

Just wanted to be sure you don't end up stepping on a landmine after all A "wacom pen" won't necessarily work. It has to be a "wacom penabled pen". Wacom makes several types of pens, but only penabled pens will work.

If in doubt, post a link here to what you're seeing on a website and we'll help you make sure it'll work

I just tested the pens that came with my iRex DR1000, same "penabled" technology, work fine. The included one is actually identical to the one coming with the Edge, just a different color scheme. The other, fancier one (UP-7110E Grip Pen, http://www.wacom-components.com/engl...oduct/pen.html) works as well, except for the eraser and button. Still most comfortable.

Bought it from the iRex store though, which has gone the way of the Dodo, history repeating...

Hello GrumpyOldMan, I knew you in iRex DR1000 forum some time ago.
I'm waiting entourage edge here in Italy and I hope that in few days I can try it.
So you bought an entourage edge too. I have a good nice pen of DR1000 and I'm happy to know that it can work.
Have you buyed a spare battery?

Thanks for your answer.
Bye
Erminio

Hi Erminio, I bought the Pocket Edge which doesn't have a user-replaceable battery (like the DR1000 ) so no battery for me.

Alas, I'm getting the same impression with the PE than I got from iRex: a small company with plenty of good intentions and ideas, but not enough business stamina to end up with a mature product, esp. when it comes to note-taking... But this time I had a pretty good idea what I was getting into: more of an experiment, both the hardware combo, and to try out some of the Android apps etc.

My DR1000 still serves me well as a large reader, esp. for graphic novels & manga, but I have given up on the note-taking, not the least because there no simple way to get the resulting proprietary notes out of there, requiring some custom software, often written by community members (same thing to some extent with the PE/EE: you'll see that in the forums here)

That's a really good link. Every Penabled Pen I've ever seen is included there. A few I haven't seen. I'd like a Cross pen -- currently unavailable on Amazon.

As far as I can see the Wacom site is pretty useless. No links to product, no info re vendors. A search for Penabled doesn't come up with much...or much current.

Is the Wacom Penabled Tablet Pc Clip Pen, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product, the only available option?

These won't work, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...TWZ6NRCPTR8C1G, or this, http://www.amazon.com/INTUOS3-Classi.../ref=pd_cp_e_1, right?

The MOTION COMPUTING L SERIES DIGITIZER PEN (UP-7110E50A) recommended by Paula in March in the other thread doesn't seem to be available now.

Expensive, wow! I'm not going to be able to afford a new tablet running Honeycomb with what I'm spending on my PE!

A quick google search shows the Motion pens in many stores; yes expensive, but well worth it. http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...hl=en&tbm=shop
