If you're looking for pdfs of out-of-print books, besides Google Books, you might try ManyBooks.net. You can search by title, author, genre, etc. (even by language), and the books download quickly and easily onto the eDGe. Additionally, for most books there are reviews, plot summaries, and excerpts, and all list word and page count.

BTW, another option for converting to PDF is to use CutePDF (http://cutepdf.com/). It is completely free and acts as a virtual printer for your PC to convert any text that you might have in whatever format into PDF. Basically if the app that you use to open the document has a Print function, you can convert it to PDF using this thing.

Another resource for oop books is Internet Archive. It draws books from a variety of sources, including Google books and Project Gutenberg. I've found quite a few books there. It also has Moving Images and Audio sections, but I haven't played in those.
