That's the option I use and I'm not attached to a school/uni. On the link page I gave it's the first option.

I'm totally confused by the Citavi site too. All I see for free is the version with the 100-item limit.

Okay, pardon my ignorant posts on what Citavi I've actually got.

Now that I'm on my pc I can see what's what.

I've definitely got the Citavi Free version, and from my reading of their Products page I see that what they're saying about the Free version is that I can have 100 References.

Now I recall reading some time ago what 'references' actually means and will post when I re-find that info.

From memory the discussion goes along the lines of: a reference is not a project - but the number of references that a project can have. But I want to clarify that, because a reference could be the number of projects in total and nothing to do with references attached to it.

Anyway, it's suited my needs to date, but I don't have anywhere near 100 references. I use Calibre for all my ebooks, and just use Citavi for some of my reading projects.

With regard to the Free version of Citavi the 100 reference limitation is explained in the following Knowledge Base answer:

Citavi Free has the complete functionality of Citavi Pro or Citavi Team, with one limitation: you cannot save if you have more than 100 references in all open projects. (For details see here.) Existing data will never be lost.

Just as in Citavi Pro/Team, you can create as many projects as you want. This means that if you have a single project, you can only save 100 references in it. If you work with multiple projects, you can only save if there are no more than 100 references in all the projects you have open at the same time.

Citavi Free will open larger projects as a reader, even multiple large projects at once.

If you have reached the 100 reference limit and need to add more references, you must upgrade to Citavi Pro or Citavi Team. You can purchase a license to Citavi Pro in our online store, which is then sent to you by email. You can then unlock Citavi Free into Citavi Pro or Citavi Team and resume working.

Thanks for the info re MediaMonkey. Which version do you use, the free or the Gold, which I see is currently selling for USD24.95?

It seems that the price is for a continuous licence, needing to be purchased only the once - which looks appealing.

I guess the best thing is though to try the free version and see what it does for me.

I've just noticed that instead of paying for the Gold version one can get it for free if they use something called TrialPay. Here's the link. There's a video that explains it.

I use Calibre for that. I made a custom column "Extra formats", in which I put "Audible", "Paper" and such things. If I don't have the ebook, I just add an empty book, otherwise I simply fill that one column.

Trial Pay is part of Special Offers board on Swagbucks. I can't say they 100% of the time pay out. I have been ripped off a few times and you can't contact support too many times or they ban you. Do not give your Credit card info over. IF you do a free trial buy a prepaid card and only put a little on it enough to cover the trial. Trial Pay is known though to ban people who cancels the free trial. Real Player offer is known for this as a few others.

As for non Audible Audiobooks I use a Catalog program to keep track of the files and a empty Book part in Calibre.
