Kindle DX not worth $300 more than K2
Well it went from $100 more to $300 more than the K2. I can't see the value - they need to lower the price. It's about the price of the wireless Ipad.
I'm not so sure it's going to survive beyond it's current model. It no longer has much of a niche, though at my age (boomer) it would be a nice option. |

I was thinking of selling my K2i and getting the DX, simply because I need better PDF support. But now given the price change, its not worth it.

Since when did big business work on principles of what a product is worth?

You are right -, they should price it at the highest point it will sell for - if they calculate people will still buy it at $489 it should stay there - no reason to price it below what people will pay for it - that would not make sense.

You just waited too long. I bought my DX when it first came out so it was only $100 more at the time, actually $130. I love it, don't regret it. But this illustrates the power of the free market's ability to lower prices through competition. The DX right now simply has very little.

I expect they will replace the KDX in the August timeframe with a device (perhaps somewhat lower priced) targeted at the business and education communities.

The answer is of course simple: if you don't think it's worth the money, don't buy it. I suspect it's the case that we won't see any significant falls in the price of 9.7" devices for a while - the screens are not in bulk production as 5" and 6" screens are.

In my case it was true. I got an Ipad, not a DX. Just add "to me" to my assertion.

This thinking does not incorporate volume. It is far more profitable to sell 10000 units with $20 in margin than 1000 units with $100 in margin. Also, you dramatically drive down the cost of production per unit when you sell 10x the volume, take 10x the market share, up word of mouth by 10x and have 10x the negotiation power with publishers.

Well it has to be flexible. Example Star Trek episodes. When they first came out they were like $14.99 per episode (VHS). Later on entire seasons on DVD were well over $100.00. Now they are $50 or less. They got the people who had to have it no matter the price to buy at the high price, and the value buyer later.

Seems someone gets frustrated waiting to see the price drop on the DX
The DX is ok for the actual price, the K2 is a real good price but only if you don't think that it is the beginning of the end cause i think the price drop on K2 is the first step into launching a new "K3" in a few weeks/month. The DX won't get a V2 soon or ever - i am not a nostradamus so "soon" or "ever" i think will be open but under the success of the iPad it could be "never" but i don't see that as a problem cause the DX is a very good device for the needs it fullfills. So what i think is - sell out on K2 hardware - K3 rising on the horizont - DX no price drop - maybe no DX V2 or at least later this year/next year - SamuraiXSendai keep asking about DX price drop every few weeks |

Well it depends I'd say in terms of what you do. even with pdf zooming you still have a larger display on the dx...larger photos can work a bit better.
In all honesty if I had the original I'd feel like it was a game boy (no offence) if my fingers reach all around something electronic then forget it. |
