Free (Kindle/iTunes/DRM-free) Scotland's Marine Atlas [Science Ecology & Industry]
Scotland's Marine Atlas: Information for the National Marine Plan is a rather thorough overview of their local geography, wildlife, environmental conditions, industrial considerations, etc., free courtesy of The Scottish Government's Marine Scotland department.
This is actually really nifty, with lots of info on plenty of topics such as what wildlife there is and exactly where it can be found, the economical contributions and environmental impacts of aquaculture and other industries, common geological formations and the habitats they result in, energy & communications & defense stuff and so forth, with many links for further reading and lots of photos. I'd recommend it as a pretty decent general intro to many of the topics in question, and not just for the Scotland-specific treatment of them. IMHO, although it's got plenty of charts and figures and delves into some specialized terminology, it's accessible enough for laymen and quite readable in a way that gets you up to speed even if you don't know much about the subjects to begin with. Permanently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), iTunes (available to Canadians and presumably worldwide), and directly from the Scottish Government's official publications website in DRM-free ePub & Mobi available worldwide. It's pretty nice that they offer you larger and smaller editions depending on what kind of image filesize your reader can take. And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because science! And because it's pretty rare when I actually do get to post science freebie ebooks that have been put into the commercial stores (and are of reasonably decent quality, which rules out the vast majority of the handful of things which do occasionally pop up in the KDP slushpile). And because it's pretty nice when I can post ones as informative and accessible as this. Enjoy! Description Scotland's Marine Atlas is an assessment of the condition of Scotland's seas, based on scientific evidence from data and analysis and supported by expert judgement.
