Dumas, Alexandre: Der Graf von Monte Christo german v2 31 jan 2009

Der Graf von Monte Christo (orig. Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) ist ein Abenteuerroman von Alexandre Dumas. Das zwischen 1844 und 1846 mit großem Erfolg als Fortsetzungsroman veröffentlichte Werk wurde zu einem Klassiker der Weltliteratur.


Der junge Seemann Edmond Dantès kehrt mit der "Pharao", einem Schiff des Reeders Morrel, nach Marseille zurück. Dantès, der an Bord erster Offizier ist, genießt die Wertschätzung Morrels und soll zum Kapitän befördert werden. Auch sein privates Glück scheint perfekt: Er liebt die schöne Katalanin Mercedes, die Hochzeit des Paares ist beschlossene Sache.

Dantès merkt in seiner Unerfahrenheit und Naivität nicht, wie negativ seine glücklichen Lebensumstände von Neidern in seinem engerem Umfeld aufgenommen werden. Durch ein Komplott gerät er schuldlos in Verbannung und Kerkerhaft. Nach vielen Jahren Jahren der Gefangenschaft gelingt ihm endlich der heiß ersehnte Ausbruch aus der Haft. Nach seiner abenteuerlichen Flucht findet er auf einer einsamen Insel einen wertvollen Schatz, der ihn zu einem reichen Mann macht.

Als wohlhabender Graf von Monte Christo kehrt er Jahre später zurück, um in einem aufwendig inszenierten Rachefeldzug Vergeltung an seinen Gegnern zu üben.

Hey, das ging aber schnell
Ich hab den Graf als pbooks, da sind es insgesamt 6 Teile, verpackt in zwei dicke Schinken. Weißt Du zufällig, was das für eine Version ist, die Du gepostet hast? Vermutlich eine gekürzte? Hätte mich nur aus Neugier interessiert.

cool, it will be interesting reading this in german. I've only read the norwegian and english version.

Ja, ist leider eine alte gekürzte Fassung. Ich kannte bis dahin auch nur die zweibändige DDR-Fassung.
Für die komplette Fassung inkl. Monte Christos späteren Reisen nach seiner Rückkehr sind frei leider lediglich alt-deutsche Übersetzungen zu bekommen, die den normalen Leser wohl eher abschrecken würden.

Davon bin ich durchaus nicht überzeugt. Es gibt genug Leser, gerade hier, die gerne Originalversionen lesen. Meine Karl May-Version zum Beispiel ist so weit wie möglich am Original und bis jetzt hat sich darüber noch niemand beschwert. Wobei ich den Begriff alt-deutsch in dem Zusammenhang nicht ganz nachvollziehen kann.

Mit Alt-Deutsch meinte ich die Sprachweise sowie den Schreibstil um 1850, bspw. sowas hier: http://books.google.de/books?id=OQ3T...ummary_r&cad=0.
Das Problem sind vorrangig die ellenlangen Schachtelsätze über 4-6 Zeilen mit teilweise mehreren Nebensätzen und oftmals nicht mehr üblichen Ausdrucksweisen.
Wer weiß heutzutage noch, daß eine "Haue" die Schneide einer Axt sein soll oder ein "Weichstein" ein Stein (manchmal auch ein Pfahl) zum Abweisen von Wagenrädern?
Lange Schachtelsätze versetzt mit inzwischen beinahe unbekannten Begriffen machen das Lesen meines Erachtens nicht unbedingt zum Vergnügen - insbesondere für die jüngeren Leser. Wenn ich die Wahl habe, lese ich da lieber eine etwas jüngere Übersetzung aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert mit etwas modernerer Sprachweise.

This is one of the baddest books ever written. I think it might be time to re-read it again. I love Dumas in general.

Well, maybe it's not the best book Dumas has written but it's not that bad. And last but not least it's world literature. So everyone should have read it at least once.
