Standby wallpaper?

I do not know how feasible it is (probably not at all, as the power off procedure might be hardcoded in the firmware), but here is a hack I would like to see:

Instead of displaying a blank page at the power off (I mean "hot" power-off, not complete shutdown, of course), a selected picture is shown... voila, your Reader doubles as an e-frame!

I suppose that after the unit is activated again, it should go to a blank screen and only then display the proper page, to lose some of the ghosting. You lose one page switch, but for me it would be a small price to pay...

It's an interesting idea, Jabberwock, I haven't the foggiest notion as to how doable it might be, but it's a very interesting idea.

I don't see why that shouldn't be possible with a complete shutdown as well. After all e-ink does maintain state without power.

Oh I agree that the display can handle it, no problem. I'm not sure about how possible it would be to get the device to do it, is all.

The XML files definitely don't have any control over that behavior. It'd require digging deeper into the firmware for that.

if somebody gets it working we'll need a "blank" wallpaper for airplane travel.
