  • update_usbnetwork_0.24.N_k3g_install.bin
  • update_usbnetwork_0.24.N_k3gb_install.bin
  • update_usbnetwork_0.24.N_k3w_install.bin

Which of those files should I use(I have an European Kindle 3 with 3G + Wi-Fi)?

That doesn't solve my question because I'm neither an US, nor an UK citizen.

I used the "update_usbnetwork_0.24.N_k3g_install.bin" because my Kindle Serial begins with B006. However it said Update unsuccessful at the end. There is no logfile, no usbnet directory and the file "update_usbnetwork_0.24.N_k3g_install.bin" has been deleted from the Kindle.

You're not following the instructions correctly as you're missing the initial jailbreak. Read the instructions completely and follow every single step.

Now I have jailbreaked my kindle and the usbNetwork update has worked. But if I plug the kindle into my PC(Win7 x64) it says that it can't find drivers for RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget. Then I tried it in a Win XP x32 VM, but there it didn't find drivers, too. Where do I get those drivers?

See this post https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=228.
You need the Windows Mobile Driver package installed (download requires authentication).

I had a problem with it too. In Device Manager the network card had a ! beside it. I clicked properties and installed the Microsoft driver manually as someone explained in a post on this site.

I need help. Where would I find someone who could help me with the USB-Network hack for my Kindle 3 (B006)? I need urgent assistance.

Kindle version: 3.0.2 GB wifi and Windows 7 x64

Here what I did:
1. go to this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88004 and download the file kindle-jailbreak-0.4.N.zip
2. extract the content, connect your kindle and copy update_jailbreak_0.4.N_k3w_install.bin to the kindle (root folder)
3. go to menu -> settings -> menu -> update kindle
4. download from the same thread: kindle-usbnetwork-0.27.N.zip
5. extract the content, connect the kindle and copy update_usbnetwork_0.27.N_k3w_install.bin to the kindle (root folder)
6. go to menu -> settings -> menu -> update kindle
7. on the kindle: home -> a -> del -> ;debugOn -> ~usbNetwork
8. connect the kindle to the computer via usb, Windows 7 will complain about a missing driver
10. follow this guide to install some driver: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=240
11. go to netowkr and sharing centre, open the properties of the second local area connection and set the ip manual to 192.168.2.1, subnet 255.255.255.0
12. open programs and features from the control panel and choose "Turn Windows Features off or on"
13. tick "telnet client" and confirm
14. start -> run -> type in telnet 192.168.2.2
15. juhu
16. change the root password, configure usbNetwork to only start sshd and you have an easy life to connect wireless...

Linux/Ubuntu:

I took steps up to 7 and when disi! spoke about windows I started to investigate myself. I did the following (maybe someone could tell me if I did some unnecesary steps!!):

sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.2.2

You can check the result with:

lsusb | grep RNDIS

This should show something like:
Bus 008 Device 002: ID 0525:a4a2 Netchip Technology, Inc. Linux-USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget

Now you should be able to ping your kindle with:

ping 192.168.2.2
Quote:
PING 192.168.2.2 (192.168.2.2) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.2.2: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=7.94 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.2.2: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=2.05 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.2.2: icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=1.66 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.2.2: icmp_req=4 ttl=64 time=1.96 ms
and ...
telnet 192.168.2.2 now gives me...

Trying 192.168.2.2...
Connected to 192.168.2.2.

g_ether is the module loaded on the *device*. On the host, you need usbnet & cdc_ether. (They should be autoloaded anyway).
