Today is Amazon's 15th Anniversary of their first book sale

http://technologizer.com/2010/07/16/...amazon-and-me/

Quote:
According to Esquire, today marks the fifteenth anniversary of Amazon.com’s first sale. (Wikipedia says the first customer bought a copy of Douglas Hofstadter’s Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought, a book which Amazon still sells–hey, it’s even available in a Kindle edition.)

Thirteen years plus for me. (May 23, 1997). And, one of the books in that order I STILL haven't read. (Idoru by William Gibson)

Wow, for some reason I thought Amazon was older than that. I do remember when they just sold books. Growing up in the Seattle area, seems like I ought to have kept up more.

11 years for me.
1999. I started to order books over the Internet from Amazon.com to Israel.

Nov 10, 1997 I ordered 3 non-fiction books: quilting, drawing, and a book on childbirth (I was pregnant with my now 12yo). I didn't order again until almost 15 months later and have been a steady customer ever since.

Wow, time flies. I first ordered from Amazon July 11th, 1997. Picked up Voyage by Stephen Baxter in that first order along with a Visual Basic programming book. Next books after that later in the month were Cyteen and Tripoint by C.J. Cherryh.

Time certainly does fly. But I agree, it seems like they have been around forever! Congrats to them & may they continue for years to come.
